Yep you guessed right, it is TCW Columbia. THANK YOU for the insight!! I'm now working on the last few details to get onboard with them. Hopefully will be starting next week :D

Great point!! I'm grateful for the opportunity with TCW, as i also have applied to schneider and gypsum express flatbed. Starting with either of them and the job details involved was looking a whole lot different than it is with this job at TCW.

The schneider terminal is 1.5 hrs from my house and they were not very clear about IF there was anywhere near my house that they'd allow the truck to go for hometime. That would be a problem for me, even though it would be every 2 weeks i'd still not want to make that drive through charlotte traffic on my off time. But I do understand and agree with what you said in general. It just didn"t make alot of sense to me to deal with that unless it was my only option.

I personally believe that you made the right choice. It’s been a lot of years since I worked at TCW but it really wasn’t bad the night runs were pretty good it’s been a while I have no idea what the runs now are but like the Kingsport TN run you would leave Columbia go to Kingsport drop and hook take that to Charleston terminal drop and hook back to Columbia or Columbia to Charlotte or to a place in Va I don’t remember the name but it was right off I77 at the WV Va line then back to Columbia or Charleston. But I would definitely recommend TCW compared to Schneider or Gypsum

Well welcome to the truck stop. Best of luck. I know all the guys here that are regulars will appreciate any and all updates about your journey. Don't be afraid to ask any and all questions around here, I'm sure you'll get good help. I got a ton of great help here myself. Keep your head on a swivel, and keep the rubber side down!

I would never do a home daily job with a one-way commute that long either. What I'm saying is being desperate, or having no better option doesn't make the bad part of say working at Schneider less bad. Considering the commute, remember you may only have 10 hours off of the clock and in that time you have to commute TWICE and sleep and eat and shower, etc. I'm suggesting, until you try to park a big commercial vehicle at home you don't know what issues will come up. Lots of people excited about being able to park the truck at home learn in the first week or month there is a big issue and they have to park somewhere else. Now you get to decide if you want to pay someone close to home for parking. For 18 years I commuted to my home-daily job but the commute was 8 miles. Other drivers had a 1-2 hour one-way drive to work. Not only does the commute of any real distance become a complete time suck on your limited time off, but it's frustrating to have the same idiots doing the same idiotic bad driving stunts at the same red light, exit, etc 25 days per month. I commuted 45 minutes one-way for my tanker job but I was home once a week or every few weeks. Daily commuting must be pretty close or the long-term problems will make you leave. Also, the lower the money and the more abnormal the schedule the sooner those long-term problems make you leave. EVERY newbie dismisses the problems like they won't matter and then posts here in a month or two about how to fix the problem they just dismissed. I assume you are not walking into a problem and will do great and be happy. I do ask you consider anything you don't like about the job you consider in your career how would you like that problem to be present everyday for 1-5 years. If the problem is small enough for you that seeing it for 1 to 5 years isn't an issue, great. If a newbie hopes the problem won't be what they fear and will magically disappear so they don't face it often for that period, then it's probably going to be a problem. This is my general impression from my experience over the years and not aimed only at you with employer A and not employer B, so you should choose what I would choose. I'm trying to explain how I evaluate jobs. You need to have a plan and follow your plan, IMO. My plan worked for me.

tscottme , Thanks for the good insight/advice. One of the main reasons I'm goin with TCW.... Their terminal is 20 min from home. I can get my experience 6mo-1yr and then re-evaluate. Got some great perspective on this thread here and re-affirmed what I was hoping. I've also contacted one of the local tanker companies here I've been looking into for a while and they said the experience doing intermodal would be fine, and that they would train me on their equipment if/when I get hired on in the future. So I feel like Ive got a good plan figured out for now... At this point Im just ready to get after it and rollin with training. Its only been 2 weeks since i got my license and I'm tired of thinking about it , I'm ready to work! :)
