I have an International that when you flip the switch for the power divider to engage it actually turns it off. I was putting brake shoes on a customer's truck and noticed the wheel would not spin. So I flipped the power divider switch and wheel would free spin.
With yellow knob in and divider switch ON the power divider is off.

Seems like there was some rears in Internationals that worked differently but I can't remember from so many years ago. Where when you put air to it it disengaged the power divider. Am I remembering this right? I am thinking someone replaced the rear to the opposite version.

My old IH only has parking brakes on the front axle and when you set the brakes it engages the power divider to "act" like it has parking chambers on the rear as well.

Sounds right. I cannot tell you all the years but there is a 9400I? around here like that. It has an N14 so early 90"s?
All 4 drives have to have a parking brake. Some folks figured it was less expensive to lock the power divider when the parking brake is set and or when the truck has no air. Only one axle has maxi chambers and the other axle has parking brakes through the locked power divider.
So do you have 4 maxi's or 2. Could be just a bad air cylinder. That is what I thank?

Just 2. I was putting brakes on the left rear and the wheel would not spin. This was a non park brake wheel. I flipped the power divider off with yellow knob in and the wheel would free spin.

Like mentioned, International used "reverse air lock out" system for PDL due to using only service cambers on the rear rear drive. So no air to the cylinder is locked, air pressure unlocked. Air supply to it is from the parking brake delivery. If someone is not aware of that and installs a regular diff with normal PDL lock cylinder, you will get the opposite operation. Not sure the year range, but it was several.

Thanks. It has been a good while since I came across this issue. This truck is like a 1999 if I remember correctly.
