If you can get the truck cheap, real cheap, go for it. At the first sign of any real expensive trouble, junk it.

Went back some time ago and watched the promo video for the max fart. Just for fun. Had engine on a pedestal. Some guy telling how great it is. All shiny and pretty lights making it glisten. I was almost mesmerized. Well almost.!

look at the prices on the 2012s in general. .... the prostars are selling about half of what the 4 other truck brands are doing now wonder why that is

I would stay away from those years but that’s just my opinion u might get lucky with it. I have a 15 with a Maxxforce and haven’t had any real issues Since I bought it

not at all. The Maxxforce was horrible when it first came out of course but it has gotten better since. I know plenty of people that run the motor and they are living comfortably with it. If the Maxxforce was still as bad as it was starting out then I’m sure Navistar would be bankrupt and not on the brink starting to recover.

Ok. All this stuff is sort of a gamble anyway.

The new MaxxForce, no longer called the MaxxForce, running the SCR system is said to be on par with say the Paccar. I would still go with the very known quantity Cummins motor, the one that is easily fixed.

Yea it’s a gamble with any of these DPF engines these days. One of my coworkers has a Cummins that he has been chasing injector leaking issues with for the last few months along with other repairs. Said he dumped over 20k in it so far. I was able to pick up my Maxxforce with the factory extended warranty on it still and transfered over to me at no additional charge.

You just have to pick a well maintained truck.

They are all well maintained, until you get it off the stealerships lot.
