    Heymcelroy...
u r the perfect person to answer my premise of the first question on the post...
what are the reasons for your prostars are going in the shop? Is it more less simple matters or are they major machAnical issues?

Recent trip with 65 mph of 700 miles through Texas with a dry van in a Pro Star day cab with the roof fairing yielded 3.8 MPG. The truck had NO power, even empty. Jakes were weak. Pathetic excuse for an engine.

I like driving the prostar. Roomy, decent mileage and while weak, does have enough power to get the job done.
As of yet, they haven't put me down on side of road or needed a tow.

The downside is the emissions. Seems around 225-275 K they start requiring frequent parked regens. Will start needing one a couple times a week then daily, progressing to multiple parked regens in one day at cost of 1 hr each for productivity.

Doesn't matter if you're only 50 miles from your destination, with 1 hr left on clock, when it starts flashing and beeping for parked regen, you have to stop or you will get derated and need a tow. It's very frustrating to have to reschedule a pickup or delivery because you are sitting on the road with 3rd parked regen of the week.

Truthfully, the prostar issues have been minimally invasive to me. When I notify McElroy ( who would love to sell every pre-DEF prostar) that I'm having regen issues, they swing me by a terminal or dealer and I switch trucks and I'm off on my happy way while my old truck gets fixed. Without that network these trucks would be a nightmare.

So I wonder what the fixes are that they are doing? Sounds like software, sensor, or dpf cleaning. See that is exactly why I wanted to start the thread. I hear so much negative about MF but when I dig down to the issues that are putting them in the shop it seems like all the same issues I have had with my cummins over the past 2 years. Sure MF has power issues but in my application it really doesn't effect me since we haul 25k and less.

I know on the newer ones they've put def on them. People have said they run a lot better and feel stronger since they don't have as much exhaust being pushed back into the engine

Had a tech once tell me the egr was sending back upwords of 72 to 86% of the exhaust depending on RPM of the engine. If it managed to make it to 400k which was a huge if, it would have the soot level inside the motor of a million mile engine.. The egr system on maxforces was a poor design and was never ment to take the truck past the warranty.. The trucks with these motors should never be resold.

I can understand the egr system messes these engines up and have been searching for someone that does the egr deletes on the MF engines but haven't found anyone yet. Does anyone know anybody that does the deletes?

I don't believe this thread is talking about deleting anything from the engine or mods. It's just talking about the problems with this engine
