For certain. A lot of stuff starts over there. Crashabouts (or round abouts) work over there. Then we get to implement the idea here and what a cluster. Here we spend more on landscaping the things than engineering them properly.

I know that the latest Paccar engines are using much less EGR than previous versions, FWIW.

Nobody else see the irony in International going from “we’re going to use only EGR, no SCR to “we’re going to use only SCR, no EGR”?

FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) are what Case/New Holland use now. I believe they're also in the newer Tigercat forestry machines too. No EGR, just regular waste gated turbo(s). Pretty impressive that they can squeeze a peak of just over 680 hp out of a 12.9L engine in the high output applications.

When I learned the new S13 was co engineered with Scania (Traton Group) that got my attention. For the first time I would consider getting an international engine because no EGR cooler or VGT is a game changer for reliability. I am hesitant though because these are not direct from Scania engines. International bought the manufacturing rights from Scania, so it is my understanding it is built here in the US at Navistar engine plant in Huntsville. It also has a redesigned head, I am not sure why. This gives me pause, because if anyone can screw up an engine, its Navistar.

I'm hoping is 2 years or so we will have a better idea of their quality. If they turn out good, I would prefer it in a truck over cummins and volvo's current line up. I'm very excited about the S13. I hope it does well.

Where did you hear it had a reengineered head? At a dealer level, that’s not what we’ve been told (I have on occasion fallen asleep in a webinar however).

What we’ve been told is that if our engine plant goes down, we can get everything from the other 3 in the world as they are the same engine across the board.

It was a comment by Bruce Wilson in a video he made test driving a LT with S13 powertrain.

It sounds like you are much more in the know though, so that is some great information. Makes me more confident in the S13.

Any talk or experience about how the S13 is doing in service so far? Any common issues or anything?

From what I have been reading..
The HP has been jacked up with bigger pistons.
    Which intern it burns cleaner.
But still uses DEF all the other emissions stuff is gone.

So far, it’s performed great! In another thread I commented about a customer of mine averaging 11.15mpg (imp) over a 2 month demo, while his 5 x A26’s averaged 8.5-9mpg (imp).
The only issues we’ve seen so far are some ghost codes, that once cleared don’t come back, and one unit plugging up a DPF, with no known cause.
