I use verizon DSL at home. I will be going on the road for the first time in a couple of weeks. Does Alltel have wireless internet? I have been with them on my cell phone for several years and love it.
I have Verizon Fios at home . It is amazing . Last Result: Download Speed: 20168 kbps (2521 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 3403 kbps (425.4 KB/sec transfer rate) And verizon EVDO on the Road
I use hughes net at home(Dont like them but that is all that is available).I use sprint on the road my sprint is faster if I have a signal.
Funny you should mention that . We sell the stuff that will get you better signal . Might even be able to get rid of the Wildblue at your home and get your Sprint card working there as well.
I'd like to see an option for EVDO. A while ago, I switched to Sprint after trying both Centennial and Cingular/AT&T. I get speeds around 1mbit down/512kbit up and it's my only Internet connection. Since I've gotten the service, I got my mom to switch and pretty much most of my family is on Sprint so all of my calls are free. I've gone from my house to Detroit, Flint, Mt Pleasant, Lansing, etc and had highspeed I could use while driving the entire time. Before I got Sprint's MBB (which blows away VZW in speeds and coverage), I was using a two-way satellite system. We've also gotten rid of our land-line and I've added my dad to my plan for when he's on the road. He drives at night, so he doesn't cost me much.
Alltel does offer EVDO (Cellular Broadband Service) and they have an EVDO roaming agreenment with Sprint . So the coverage is very good
Thats the setup I have. Use my PDA phone with EVDO to get pretty good road speed. looking forward to the evdo update to even boost the speeds faster. BTW, did you know that foreign nations are getting even higher rates than here in the US, and for less $$$? Japan gets over 100mb/sec and some placed in europe are configured even faster.
To the dope that thinks DSL is not a shared connection how is it then there is one copper wire going everywhere in a neighborhood. It is a shared connection and it gets slower every time someone connects to the copper wire from the CO. Why would Verizon be putiing FIOS in which is fiber to the home if they (Telcos) had a direct connection to each home. You really should understand the game before you say anything. DSL has same problem every other shared connection has. Wait until the video apps really get going and see what kind of speeds you get. Have fun.
You joined a trucking forum to say that? Well, "Tech Man", there's not a single wire going to everyone in the neighborhood. Each home should have at least its own PAIR running from the house and terminated in the CO/RT. Often, these central offices and remote terminals are actually supplied by a fiber connection. They're not moving to FIOS because they don't have a seperate wire to each house--they're moving to FIOS because fiber has a much higher capacity than the small pairs that sufficed for telephone service for generations. Please, go read, then come back.
I am using Sprint Broadband EVDO for all my internet needs, at home and in the truck. This is a great service and I am pleased with the service in TMON. I get constantly 90k+ download and I'm not sure about uploads, but not bad there as well.
