Internet on the road

Yesterday I signed up with Millenicom, my equipment should arrive at my home in the next 6 days. They use the Sprint network but don't require a contract and you don't have to pay for the equipment, just send it back when you are done.

I'll let you guys know how it works.

 

Thanks for linking but unfortunately the links provided are not useful/relevant or up to date. The first cnet link is from 2004, that's some 4 years old mate, and by mark's claim we are talking about 2007. The second link discusses FiOS (Fiber Optic Service) which is like comparing apples to oranges and is not even on topic. I have yet to see mark post his source, and claiming thousands of hits on google from 'reputable' websites to back up your claim is a cop out to his outlandish claim.

As I said before its cool that you like another carrier and by all means share your experience, but lets not guild the lilly and make false claims because you think you know what you are talking about. I don't mean to sound rude but FiOS does not even compare to wireless in any arena, and by posting that link makes it look like you don't know the difference.

So I'm still waiting here for the link to 'Verizon has the worst consumer rating for 2007', or for mark to admit that he embellished that a tad.

Thanks for the help with a wifi card on what provider to use, even if the info is upto 4 yrs old, This wifi is something new to me, I have dsl at home, im looking for something in the wifi world that would be compairable to speed of dsl, with a service area of dam near every we may travel,

i have had my aircard from sprint. almost a month now and it would seem just a tick slower than what i have at home.

 

Staying in contact while on the road can be a challange!

Internet for travelers is fortunatly pretty easy to access.
I use a wi-fi card to get onto local networks at the truckstops, motels, and other sources. The cost of a decent wi-fi card is # $50 for a decent one if your laptop doesn't have an internal wi-fi.
I also use a broadband card from a cellphone provider. The cost for these cards are about $60/month, most cell providers charge the same.

My experience comes from over 20 years computer experience running servers, building computers, wire networks etc.. and if you don't know the difference between FiOS and Wireless then clearly you don't know apples from oranges when it comes to computers. So run your mouth off all you want but you're already at the end of your leash.

*Also its Guild the Lilly, not Gild the Lily, please quote me properly if you are going to go through the trouble to stand up and be heard. The false claims comment is from the links that you posted after your consumer affairs links.

Now lets look at your consumer affairs links:
1) Your first link (2006, wrong year again mate) is to a story about Verizon Limits Its "Unlimited" Wireless Broadband Service and it does not translate into Mark's claim that Verizon had the worst customer service comment.

2)Your second link (2007, at least you got the right year) Verizon Agrees to Stop 'Unlimited' Claims is once again not the topic which we were discussing, please keep up or get out of the hammer lane so the rest of us can go by.

So do me a favor and put down your google search box and keep up with the discussion or step off your soapbox. I use Sprint and I have evdo/rev a service in most places I am at. If I dont have evdo/ rev a service I get a decent speed in most other places similar to dial up. There have been very few places that I have been without any service. Spint is unlimited usage (honestly) for 59.99 a month. I think it is the best.

 

I am using Alltel aircard, and have had no troubles connecting across the nation. Some areas the service is slow, dial up, but the coverage is good, and it is truley unlimited for $59.99 per month.

 

Clearly both articles were about WIRELESS BROADBAND. Since you obviously neglected to read it and jump on someone, I will post the FIRST ONE here:

Wrong Buckaroo. First link was from JULY 2006, second was the follow-up article from OCT 2007. Both articles speak DIRECTLY to Verizon's "Customer Service", by selling a product as "UNLIMITED", and then "LIMITING" it by canceling accounts that go over "their" limit threshold.

I think it is perhaps your comprehension skills that need "refreshing".
