At any rate, I am feeling much better about this. Initially, I thought I was bound to haul freight which only crossed state lines. Now, it doesn't seem that. I'm stoked about driving again.
Thanks again!

I believe you would be filing under the #1 option, not #2.
But let me check the 4 noted "exceptions" listed under option 2, with the FMCSA regs. -
I believe you are right. I believe I chose option #2 to keep my CDL w/o needing a medical card when I renewed last year.
-
Option 2 lists:
Category 2: Interstate, but operating exclusively in transportation or operations excepted under 49 CFR 390.3(f), 391.2, 391.68, or 398.3. Only this certification must be submitted to the state driver licensing agency.
Option 2 would be classified as "Excepted Interstate" (designated "EI"). That does NOT apply to you or your situation.
If you look up each of the 4 bolded FMCSA regs above, you'll see they deal with farm vehicles, transporting migratory workers, govt vehicles, etc, etc, all of which don't apply to you.
As baha said, tho, you need to submit your medical forms and also get that "Intrastate" corrected from Kansas.
Bottom line, you need to submit all your med application/approval as Option 1 (Non-Excepted Interstate), same as designation "NI". -
Hi blazblu82
how long will you take to get that diabetes exemption waver from DOT? my brother just found out he got type 1 diabetes, and his company put he on safty hold until he get the waver.he s planning to apply the waver, want to know how long it will take .
thanks -
Sorry to hear about your brother. The 1st thing he will want to do is go here. Next, he'll want to print this. He must follow every instruction in the packet. It generally takes 180 days from start to finish; however expect longer. There will be delays due to incomplete information from the Drs. I started about Feb or March of last year and I got my approval in late December.
It's a lot of work, but worth it, imo. Good luck!slowlulu Thanks this. -

If he wants to drive, he could very well get a state waiver to drive locally until he has his interstate waiver. State of Kansas takes about 30 days. The big stipulation with the waivers is that he must show control of his diabetes for X number of months. Type 1's have to show a longer period of control than Type 2's because Type 1's have a higher risk for hypoglycemia (chronic low blood sugar). If/when he gets his interstate waiver, he must maintain his numbers between 100 and 400 (400 too high imo). Everything he needs to know about the program is in the packet.
I wish him the best of luck!Click to expand...

Keep in mind, DOT requires #'s to be at least 100 and no more than 400 before driving and he must check every 2 to 4 hours every day when driving.blazblu82 said: ↑his numbers between 75 and 90 b4 meal, and 120--130 after meal, his Dr said his number is good . he already start working on the DOT waver, the Info you given to us was help a lots. with out ur help,we didnt even know how to start.
