The first load I did at IDC was a team load they had no team to cover it because they probably had their truck in the shop getting a light bulb changed or something stupid like that.
When I worked at IDC many loads where dumped in the yard by teams and locals and dp to a solo to late to deliver on time. They would tell you to get it off the yard or dock to get it rolling. And they would reschedule or swap it out later. When I worked for IDC it was forced dp and ops could really care less if you had hours to run a load or not.
I saw far more cases of teams whining about a load under a thousand miles, or ones that had more then 1 stop, instead of shutting their pie holes and doing what they where hired to do, instead of stopping every 100 miles to walk their mutt and doing laundry so they would have matching outfits to wear around the terminals. Then these spoiled brats would complain about miles or the water spots left on their truck after their 3rd trip to the truck wash in a week.
The fact is that no solo should work at a company that caters to teams.
Because while the teams are stuffing their faces at the cafeteria, the solos will be stuck delivering their load.
Now thems the facts!

Geeze big blue, I thought you liked interstate.
I think one of the biggest drawbacks is that they are so dang customer oriented. I will wait for hours (like 4 or 5) to get loaded or unloaded with no detention. Its not built into the account. Get another account even if the driver gets left in the cold. It really effects the income specially when the freight is slow.
And the flippin mistakes that get made. No one is ever held accountable.
I think hauling freight for swift was a lot less of a hassel then this co. Noticed it almost immediately. -
Lets face it, you are competing with your fellow drivers for income.
Why compete on a less then a level playing field, which is what you are doing if your a company solo up against teams and contract drivers.
Why would any solo want to put themselves in the poor house by being a"team player" and running a load over a mountain pass or the last hundred miles ,to sit on a dock for 4 hours so a team does not have to?
Screw that. When I run OTR it is to make money and I could care less what some other driver is getting for miles. Thats their problem. I will give up a load to get someone home . But give up my good run so a team can make money? Nope.
I left many a team sitting in T/s scratching their heads waiting for me to show up so they could get out of delivering their load. The desk jockeys would whine a little but they never did anything. I was to valuable when it came time to put out fires and save their arses from a pink slip, so they let it slide.
But I now avoid, as any solo should, the hassle of dealing with companies that deal with teams. Your skills as a driver, not just how many drivers are in a truck should determine you income. -
IDC is a decent company. I worked for them, but couldn't deal with some policies. Nice equiptment, Beautiful terminals, lots of amenities. But updating your hours twice a day, not for me. I do things abit differently to maximize my hours. IDC is mostly a team oriented company. If you are a team, you will love it. Not a bad company, I just like to do things the way I'm used to them. Good luck working here, you might enjoy it if you are coming from a big company

Gee, when IDC runs 2500 + trucks there will be some sitting around somewhere! The Henderson yard couldnt hold 100 bobtails if all the trailers were gone. Tacoma and Lebanon are yards that put new trucks in service and process out old trucks so they always have lot's of trucks sitting around. By the way I've been with IDC for over 20 years and I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere else.

I ran solo with IDC (out of Troutdale) and spent more time sitting. I just couldnt make any money, they didnt have enough miles for solo drivers.
If they gave me atleast 2500 miles a week, I would still be there.
Just my two cents. -
I agree with you Knighton..I would normally stay out 2 weeks but wasn't getting the miles so I started staying out a month and got the same miles as I was staying out 2 weeks...
