Hey guys. Thanks for all of your input on this matter. I talked to a recruiter at Gordon & I was very upfront with them and let them know my record, but unfortunately, I was turned down, the reason being "The ticket will make me ineligable for the next 3 years." I can understand this, thus I'm not angry, but even more optimistic in getting on with another company. I'm now thinking of going to Steven's in Dallas, since I'm from the Fort Worth area (I just live in KC with my dad). My mom still lives in Fort Worth/Burleson, TX, so it would be no problem going to school there, plus with my financial situation, it'll make it a lot easier to get my training. I've been reading up on boards about Steven's, and so far they seem to be really good. Considering my record, does anyone think I'll be able to get on with them? Thanks!

    ssccrab,

Any big company that you apply to will likely pull your MVR. They will already know about the ticket. If they ask you the details then be honest. If they don't ask, don't volunteer additional info.

You might have a chance with Steven's, but at your age and driving record it might be hard.

    Keep applying and trying.

Thanks everyone. I'm really appreciating the honesty. It's good to have that in this industry after some stories I've read. I believe what I will have to resort to is having the ticket amended, since it hasn't yet been paid and I can still do that. Due to the cost of the ticket, I was considering just paying it since it was only one ticket and wouldn't raise my insurance premium. But now that I see that with a ticket for over 26mph on my record, and after doing a heck of a lot of research on these types of topics & hiring practices, it'll be virtually impossible to get a job with anyone at all, even some of the bottom feeder companies. Just paying for it might not ruin my insurance or cost too, too much, but it sure is having a vast effect on my chances for a new career. It might take a little longer and cost just a bit more, but I would at least be able to guarantee myself good training from a college and getting on with a good, respected company making good money from the get-go. Any thoughts?

What would you attempt to get it amended to?

Let's be honest. You admit that you did it.

Well, I certainly don't feel there's any reason in hiding it. :biggrin_25525: People get in rushes and speed all the time, and I happened to be the one to get caught that day at that time. BTW- On the way home the same day, I saw that same cop (a motorcycle cop) behind another car as well on the side of the road, lol. That part of Kansas (Olathe) is verrry busy, and people go whizzin' through there like bats out of a volcano all the time.

In Kansas, speeding tickets are automatically amended to illegal parking (if you want it amended), thus not being reported to the state of Kansas or your insurance/driving record. The only stipulation is you pay double the fine. I have the opportunity to amend this ticket, I just hadn't taken the steps yet to do it. Price of the ticket is $281 (a little steep, huh?), so double that... $562 :biggrin_25512:. But for a new career, it's sooo worth it. Besides, if I get on with the right company, I'll make that back in no time, considering everything goes the way it should.

Be honest, that is way too much over the speed limit. I wouldn't pay for the trucking school until I found a company that would hire me with that ticket.

26 MPH is way too fast. There used to be a place and a time for such stunts - that time has long gone. That is what happened as we became more knowledgeable about drunk driving and speeding and related issues.

That said - if you have learned your lesson, if Kansas will really drop it down to a parking ticket, you should get it amended - regardless of going into trucking or not. Nevada has (or used to have) a similar deal, but the string was that if you got another one, the old one reverted back to a speeding ticket and the new speeding ticket could not be amended.

So make sure you learned from this - cause if you have not and get a second one - you might just have two on your MVR and then you will really have an issue with getting a job.
