    Thanks again for responding and all your comments. As I was writing my request with questions, I was busy answering 99 questions from family member, consequently the misspelled words.

    Kittyfoot, I should know that since my daughter is a figure skater... :)

    jbee, you are absolutely right, I should be more attentive.

    This is what I have learned today regarding weight limits in California:
    Steer axle - 12,500 on all trucks.
    Streight trucks - 20,000
    Combination trucks - 18,000 per axle; 34,000 on tandem axles;
    on split axles it is also 18,000 per axle.

    Does anybody know if it is the same in other states?

    I can give you the Michigan setup, it's a little heavier then that.

    Steer - 15,400 (18,000 if equipped with high pressure pneumatic or balloon tires)
    Tandem - 16,000 per axle, if there is no other axle within 9 feet of the tandem
    Single - 18,000 per axle, if there is no other axle within 9 feet
    Tridem or more - 13,000 lbs per axle

    All trucks cannot exceed a total of 11 axles.

    Note that these are all for trucks largely travelling intrastate, trucks travelling through Michigan have to abide by the bridge formula.
