i look at it like this ,dont care where you came from,as long as you concider yourself a american and treat everyone with respect,,,,,the reason i say this is because when i was in the service ,black .white .green. yellow.pink with polk a dots ,you were a soldier,,and truth be known it was a black guy that coverd my butt when we were in the trenches,,an the favor was returned at one piont and time,,and here it is 25 yrs later and we talk once a year at the holidays,, when people learn its not about color its about respect, things will go alot better,,,cause everyone bleeds the same color ,,,red

i'm pretty sure it's heritage + geographical location i.e African Americans originated from Africa (one way or another) but they're currently within either the North or South America. Same goes for Caucasian/white people i.e European Americans. Chinese, Japanese i.e Asian Americans.
there's really no reason to get upset about someone calling you an African American or the other or being asked to fill in your sex and or race on an application. It's all for records. if all of the black drivers hauled field produce, and all of the hispanic drivers hauled containers, and all of the white drivers hauled flatbed, how would anyone outside of the truck community know if it wasn't recorded? or is it that most people believe it's none of the rest of the worlds business?
how much damage could it do to a person to put that they're a female of Hispanic decent? do they really think that the company is going to hire them only because they're a minority? if so they need to do some soul searching, cause if you believe that your suck a worthless person that the only reason someone would hire you is to fill a quota then it's just a sad sad world in your mind. -
wow are you sure u want the opinion of a minority in a industry that strides on keeping division and people who have not dealt with reality. how about a black female with 18 years of solo and o/o think twice reality can be scary i am not talking about local but long hauling in good ole america.

I noticed you did not mention women, and there are plenty of women driving trucks. Or how about gays? I am sure that there are gay's out there making a living. How about older folks driving too, the AARP crowd, and maybe take a look at breaking it down to singles and married drivers too. -
Before my Grandfathers generation, our family were farmers. My Grandfather was a Truck Driver.

@ Rick
I did include women and gay/lesbian drivers. They were among my first interviews and were the first two chapters of the dissertation.
