Hey y'all,
I am in no way a truck driver, just simply the wife of a truck driver who happened to find this site a couple of weeks ago. My husband has returned to OTR truck driving (@ 6 months ago) after spending 10 years in the telcom/power industry. Although I come from a large family of truck drivers (father, uncles, cousins, etc.), as an adult, I am not at all familiar with today's trucking industry and want to learn more. If for nothing more than to better understand the lifestyle so that I may be of some support to my husband.
Even though we both traveled for our jobs prior to him returning to driving, it is still an adjustment when we are now apart for weeks at a time instead of just a few days before. The biggest challenge for me right now is trying to hold it all together (kid, work, house, etc.) and continue to provide him with support and encouragement. Thankfully, we have just moved back home to be closer to our families after relocating/traveling for our jobs the last 4+ years. It helps some, but loneliness rears its ugly head from time to time.
I do thank y'all for allowing me to briefly introduce myself and I hope to learn from this site.

Giggles - thank you for the welcome!! I think it's awesome that more and more women are going into the trucking industry! Y'all are my idols!! Keep rockin' girl!

yeah i get a kick out of seein a woman drive..i haul dirt now...and you dont see a lot of women doin that ...not where i live at anyway

I still think it's cool! When my husband was back in his home terminal the other day, I got up in the driver's seat and didn't know what end was up! All those buttons, knobs, gauges, etc. Not to mention, I couldn't even see over the hood! ha ha ha!
I used to work in industrial construction as a project engineer/manager and I had 1 project that I was overseeing in GA and I was the ONLY woman on that particular project. It was a mixed blessing - part of me felt good about being in a position that was normally a man's job, but the other side of the coin it was a curse. I had to work twice as hard to prove myself because I am a woman and that infuriated me!Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
yeah i cant see over the hood either...LOL......i am 5'3....
yeah when a woman is in a "man's profession", we do have to work twice as hard.....i am seein that alrdy with my new boss...the last woman he hired couldnt drive...and couldnt shift....and said she could...so he had doubts about me. and told me he would never hire another woman after me. altho he told hubby today (he works same place) that i can drive the heck out of a truck...LOL....WV_Daddys_Girl Thanks this.
