Ok so my girlfriend bought me a energizer 500 watt power inverter to use. I looked up the usage of a tv and ps4 and figured it has 2 plugs that's what I'll use it for. Well my company does not allow inverters so I buy a 4 gauge jumper cable cut the ends off one side add lugs to that end so now I can hook that end to the inverter and the other I can sneak and hook to battery when I'm gonna play some ps4.. well the tv and ps4 both work on it separately but not at the same time.. is 500 watts not enough power? The truck was running at the time I tried. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need more power?

You seem to be doing everything wrong.
Have you checked to see the power requirements of both the TV and PS4?
Have you made sure the connections are secure?
Have you even considered that what you are doing just might burn the truck in flames, along with you?
There is a good reason your company doesn't allow inverters, and it is because of people such as yourself.
People that know NOTHING about the PROPER installation, but try to do it anyway. And trucks burn to the ground because of it.
Wuss is right.White_Knuckle_Newbie, Knucklehead619 and tucker Thank this. -
I think your inverter is a little small. 500 watts is basically only about 4 amps at 120 volts.
WildTiger1990 and Wuss Thank this. -
Moose everything was done properly to sneak spec requirements and yes I did check the power they use I said that... don't cry to me son if you don't have answers then I didn't ask you a question..
Northern thanks for reply I am not sure what amps I need but by your 120 figure I'm assuming 2000 will be 480 volts? That about right? I'm gonna need 450+ I didn't know watts wernt volts was were I went wrong apparently -
No, not everything was done to spec. Else you would have a working setup.
You are trying to hack something together, when you know nothing of electronics.
You don't even know between watts and voltage?
You are an 'accident' waiting to happen.White_Knuckle_Newbie, joesmoothdog, 88 Alpha and 2 others Thank this. -
Watts = Volts × Amps.
If you have a 2000 watt inverter:
2000 watts ÷ 120 volts = Approx. 16.7 Amps output (be aware that some inverters are rated peak as well as continuous).
However, a 2000 watt inverter will require about 170 amps at 12 volts for an input. (170 amps × 12 volts = 2040 watts)
Like Moosetek13 said, its best to leave this sort of stuff to the professionals. 170 amps at 12 volts is nothing to laugh at. The amount of heat generated by that amperage and using jumper cable aligator clips is a recipe for disaster IMO.flood, White_Knuckle_Newbie and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
Is your inverter single or 3 phase?
When your shop services the truck, they will see the scratches the jumper cables leave. -
It needs to be bolted directly to the battery terminals. You can't use jumper clips.
And even then it is a huge drain on the batteries, especially with a company set up. They don't put the best batteries in there to begin with.
And if your company (like mine) doesn't allow company drivers to have hard wired inverters, you are just asking for termination. -
I don't see that so assume 1 however northern was right this inverter is 115 voltage ac.. that's the problem.. who cares I needed a jump lol

I guess we have another simple troll.
