    Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it's 1200w, 120v. So how I understand it.. it'd be 10amps, not 100.

Who ever said 100 amps is a freaking moron. There isn't a single household appliance that requires that much juice. Hell, my lincoln stick welder doesn't require half that.

I have seen older homes that had less than a 100 amp service ...

A 1500W inverter will pull nearly 200 amps from the battery at full load. A 2000W inverter will draw upwards of 300A.

Not entirely accurate. They only draw what is needed for the demand of the appliances, and it's only at 12 volt current. Use double ought cables and you are good.

I certainly did. But what does it matter as long as you have the common sense to use proper cables when you install it? 200 or even 300 amps at 12 volts is nothing. At 110 volts well that's a different story.

You can arc weld with 200A at 12V. I've seen it done.

That kind of current can, and does, fry wiring and burn down trucks. Something as simple as having a lock washer in the wrong place can cause a fire. You need to know what you are doing. Installing an inverter isn't like installing a new stereo or adding some chicken lights.

I wonder how many truck fires have resulted from drivers using the 2200W inverter installation kit sold at truck stops on their 2000W inverter.
