The problem with the Internet is there is always that person who "read that..." Or "heard that..." And then preach it like it is indeed the law without doing their own research.

Then the people who read what was said takes it to heart and "by golly, it's the law, so-and-so told me on an Internet forum!"

After a simple google search, I came across an instance in which a trucker was cited for having a laptop mounted on the passenger seat, like so many are. In his particular case, it was closed and in sleep mode. He was cited by Arizona DPS CMV Enforcement officials for having a "television within reach of the driver."

After going public with his story, AZDPS then reversed their opinion of that law and the case was thrown out by the judge. The USDOT spokesperson even said it was their opinion that a laptop was not a "television."

So, to anybody out there who wants to mount a laptop for GPS and HOS logging purposes, go right ahead! Hell... You don't even have to be doing that. Just don't watch Netflix while you drive!

Unlike the other person (sorry, I'm on tapatalk on my iPhone - cant see your name), here is the news article to reference.
