I got really close to buying a Motorola Xoom this week because my wife made me drop my OG Droid. I ended up going with an HTC Thunderbolt for a few reasons.

The biggest is that a smart phone still has "unlimited" data from Verizon whereas the most you can get on a tablet is 10 gb/$80. Then you have to get a phone on top of that. I definitely want a tablet, but until the carriers stop jamming it up our ##### I'll stick with a smart phone.

Also, it sounds dumb, but the Xoom, and I imagine the Ipad, have proprietary connectors and I just don't need an extra cord running around the truck. Between my 2 monitors, phones, XM, and all the other electronic crap, I need most everything I buy from now on to charge via micro USB.

Ya, all them cords gets on my nerves!

All I got is a single lighter plug in my day cab and I have to rotate charging cords between my DVD player and smart phone.

Anyhow, up until this point I depended a lot on my smart phone. I use it for everything from emails, music, movies, to managing my own web forum. I have to charge the thing 2-5 times a day due to poor battery life. As for the IPad, I can play on this thing all day if fully charged. My so called smart phone jams up all the time requiring a reboot...probably need a new phone. It just jammed up as my boss called while typing this up:biggrin_25510:

Ya, but you don't have to do a contract on the 3G service. I pay by the month. I just switch to the house wifi when home or free wifi spots when traveling.

I have mifi with Verizon. Yes it works with the iPad. I switch to the mifi (I use it with my laptop) when I'm in an area where the AtT is not 3G and I want a little more speed.

My mifi data isn't unlimited, my iPad is... 3G on the ipad is great for streaming movies and shows, but the iPad forces you to use a wifi source when downloading large Apps and movies to save.

So I don't waste my mifi data on everyday web browsing, streaming, email etc. I save it for movies and shows from iTunes.

    CertifiedSweetie Thanks this.

So with getting the ipad you also have to pay monthly to use wifi?

The WiFi has no additional cost, well except hot spots might have their own.

    Sent from my rooted Thunderbolt

Well I got a call to go drop some fuel over in the next town. So I got the address all typed in on the IPad. The main issue so far is it doesn't work worth a flip with polarized sunglasses but no surpise there. I'm just waiting now to have a truck jumped off...someone took off with my truck during my days off.

Well, I'm glad I brought the IPad along. My little one hour job including drive time turned into a 6hr job. It was one problem after another. Anyhow, I did a lot of Internet surfing and watching Netflix.

I bought a Viewsonic G Tablet and really love it. Awesome battery life, does flash, great battery life, very reasonable price, compact and is tons better to carry around than a laptop.

It only does wifi but with my rooted Droid Incredible I just turn on wireless tethering and go to surfing.
