I phone does have standard USB on one end BUT you cannot print through it with out third party software/ a jail broken (hacked) IOS setup. Apple doesn't support printer drivers on IPhone so the phone doesn't know how to send a message the printer can read except through WiFi.
to simplify any further question
CAN I PRINT USING A _______CONNECTION
USB- nope not supported due to lack of drivers on IOS
BLUETOOTH-Nope apples native Bluetooth doesn't allow data transfer
WIFI-Yes, down load an app like Printopia, airprint, etc and you can but need a wifi hotspot with both IOS product and printer sharing the same network. -
i didn' think you could plug your phone into printer.
yes the phones today have a standad micro usb plug. the printer also has a standard COMPUTER usb plug.
the 2 plugs aren't the same. unless printers within the past 12 months have changed.
my printer is wifi. my phone does connect. and so does my laptop. i hit print. but the printer doesn't print.
in looking at the directions. it says a wireless point needs to be installed. (meaning a router). to which i don't have.
at home my laptop prints wireless through my pc to the printer. i'm hoping to at least make something like that happen. between my phone and the laptop on the truck -
The printer that I ran in the truck plugged in to the usb on the laptop, and had a plug on the printer that the other end of the cable plugged in to. I assume that would be the same as hooking up to the usb on the phone, but that is just a thought. Mine also had the wifi capability, but i prefered the cable. I think that the printer was an HP470 if I remember right.

My usb cable has standard usb on one end that plugs in to the laptop and on the other end a micro or mini usb that I plug in to the phone, I thought that they both had the same function, but the mini being for smaller devices was the only difference, I could be wrong though. I am like you, I would have to consult the owners manual on the printer.

it's called a micro usb. you can plug the phone into the laptop. that's its purpose. there are various things that can be done. like charge your phone. and tether. it can also turn the phone into a seconday hard drive.
the mini usb is the older style that phones use to have. when usb first came out. it's a little bit taller.
the printer cable also plugs into the computer. through the usb port. but the jack on the printer itself is a totally different plug. looks absolutely nothing like the cell phone plug. therefor, plugging any phone into a printer is impossible.
unless things have changed in the last 18 months. that's how long i bought my printer. supposedly the first model to come out with wifi. i bought it specifically for the purpose of printing my logs wirelessly.
after spending an hour with the printer. i just can't get anything to print. wirelessly.Taildragon Thanks this. -
i ahve been messing around with the big road drivers log app for android. i like it so far it logs your locations and times from gps. i did have to change some of the locations since i was delivering out in the country and it used the wrong city for location. you can print your logs from it but it looks like you have to email the log to yourself(it emails in pdf format) from there you can print it out for signing. you can also use the web based site to veiw your logs and it also includes some other info. http://www.bigroad.com/driver-home. i have also been keeping paper logs while testing this so i think i will print out the pdf log and the next time i go through a weigh station i might go in and see if what they say about it. since you current days log does not have to be signed until end of shift i would think that as long as you printed and signed it at end of day you would be alright. i will post some pics of the diffrent pages in a few minutes.
