The only thing I don't like about FL is the ins rates are 30-35% higher than most states

Very true, the scams are so many that the state cannot keep up with it.
I pay 4 times as much here than in Virginia, but it all works out since I can deduct the expenses.

    IRP issues. (IFTA is fine).
I have been going rounds with the WI IRP division and feel like I am being treated like a 2nd class citizen. (Yea, worse than a trucker!)

WI activated a new system called WAMS around late 2010 or early 2011.
    Web Access Management System (WAMS)

Well since then I have faced computer glitches from poorly written software (did Radio Shack write this joke of a web site?) and my own somewhat misunderstanding of the system. It is very crude with no assistance. If you call them with questions, they tend to get annoyed. This is presuming you can actually reach someone of course.

Last year we attempted to add some states to my CAB card but during the process, selected CANCEL and backed out of it.

Seems CANCEL doesnt quite mean CANCEL to their system.
It generated a bill. I had to call and got my hand slapped for doing something wrong, yet they actually told me they saw I hit cancel and couldn't explain why or how a bill was generated.
So how is that my fault for poorly written software code?

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago...

I go to renew my cab card. I want to add all 48 states now.
I selected ESTIMATED for states I didnt have miles in.

    Hit submit.

System comes back with an error:
"You cannot add states already on your CAB card"

Hmm...Let me look. Nope. They are not on there, yet the system says they are....although it never billed me accordingly.

So I email WiDOT. I wait a week. No response.
I email again. Was told the supervisor is looking into it. Seems to be a glitch.

Turns out this is the same person that already yelled at me last year.

2 more weeks go by. No response.
Friday I emailed and was told that they WILL get to it and to be patient.
(ok...gee an email saying that would have been fine)

In the end of the email it also said...

"Once the supervisor corrects this she will be revoking your online WAMS access. You may wish to discuss that with her"

So yet again, I am being punished for bad software. I do everything online with WAMS and don't want to loose access. However dealing with these people that 'just dont get it' is quickly becoming equally annoying.

..ok, sorry for the rant. :biggrin_25513:

That is your State employee's who can never be fired for virtually anything. IL has the same attitude. They do not understand this money comes out of your pocket, not a corporate general slush fund. You know, kind of like they are used to raiding.

Anyway, have always been told Montana, Oklahoma & Maine were the states to set up in if you can pull it off. But figured I would end up getting caught & the IRS would throw a fit.

Unless you want to drive to Madison everytime you do something it's easier to just use a license service there. I looked at doing it ourselves but decided it was actually cheaper to use them than run from GB down there. WAMS is a joke.

    For IRP or just autos.....?

I actually wouldnt mind paying a service (at this point) to deal with this crap so I don't have to.....if I can find someone...
Not sure if a service can help me though...but to have someone in the middle can't hurt.

    WAMS:
I really don't like being scolded for -their- crappy software.
I asked them what CANCEL meant, since it didn't CANCEL the transaction.
    They were speechless.....

I was also told "WAMS is not a test system for you to play with".
That dam near put me over the top. I was nothing but polite to these people and I went out of my way to say I was sorry if I did anything here but that I felt there were issues out of my control and that I had stumbled on some software bug(s).

I suspect my issue is that the system THINKS I still have these states on my CAB card (which I do not) and as such,
it will not let me add them.
Literally, this cant be that hard to fix without pi$$ing off the customer (me) trying to get fair help. :biggrin_25513:
