Look up your receipts for mailing your taxes to IRS. I got the penalty letter yesterday I didn't file on time: $420.
I filed on March 9th, of this year. Now, I need to find a postal receipt for it or have to pay up. Such a shame on their part.
With Covid they were delayed with everything and now they are blaming people who filed. Always save your receipts with the taxes. I must have moved them for expenses somewhere and not with the taxes. Keep them with your taxes. Not worth to risk it if lost.

I found it with all the bills/receipts for this year. My blood pressure went up while I was looking for it. I found multiple USPS receipts before landing on the right one!
singlescrewshaker and Jed2009 Thank this. -
Doesn’t surprise me at all. These guys are criminals.
I paid my 2290 last year a couple months before the due date. The check cleared and I got my stamped 2290. Months later I get multiple letters saying I never paid it, charging me interest, and they were going to take my vehicles and house if I don’t pay up. I tried calling every day for hours until I would lose connection crossing state lines or whatever. I sent letters with proof of check clearing and everything.
One day I finally got through. They put it for the next years 2290 instead of the year that was due. WTF? Why on earth would they do that? They’ll do anything and to try to screw the little guy and not bother auditing themselves or trying to fix it unless they get called on it.
Tip to anyone needing to contact them, try immediately first thing in the morning as they open for the day.
FWIW the agent I finally talked to was friendly and helpful and got it taken care of. Nothing against the regular folks making a living. It’s the organization in general that’s just out of hand.Opendeckin, Siinman, singlescrewshaker and 4 others Thank this. -
I made a separate reply above, but more on your topic, have you tried the online payment system? I switched to this for quarterly taxes this year. I’m assuming it works for yearly tax due also but haven’t tried yet for this year obviously. Works nicely, proof of payment and it comes out of your bank the next day or two.

Online/EFTPS doesn't solve everything. Been fighting months now on a payroll deposit. Print out the deposit's, shows 13 made for the quarter. They keep saying one week wasn't paid. We say look at the deposit report, the one you say is missing is on it.
Used to be easy to fix things when they had an office here in town.Midwest Trucker, Siinman, Beaver9 and 1 other person Thank this. -
3 years ago i got a letter from the kgb i mean the irs stating they did not receive my payment. and i owed intrust also for late payment. the wife called them and told them we paid them, they asked for a copy of the canceled cheak front and back so they know which dept. deposit it. never heard from them again

They also give you like two weeks to pay it.

Create an online account with the IRS and make all of your payments there. Instant record of every transaction. Been doing it for years.
