My only chance was an R-Model with reverse, low, and direct on the compound side.

I only did for a short while. Not long enough to really get it down solid. But long enough to have to hit the shoulder a dozen or so times when i missed a gear and had to start over from first. And i got it stuck in what i can beat describe as between gears. Can move the sticks all ya want but it just won't engage. My dad told me to pull over, he jumped out with a crescent wrench and flat screwdriver bent at about a 45 degree angle 2 minutes later he jumped back in and said should be good now. I was like wtf?

Now that I'm thinking about it, it's probably the same thing that happens to my massey ferguson when some idiot trues to shift it from high low when in motion. Pull the side plug, push a bent screw driver in there and wiggle it around till you feel something move and bingo, you got a working tranny again.

In 1964 I started my driving career in a 1964 "Cracker Box" GMC with a 238 with a 5 speed tranny and a 2 spd rear end. We ran the Eastern states with an occasional run to Texas. We had 2-60 air conditioning and arm strong power steering. I had been working in a factory before that and was bringing home 60.00 dollars a week, the first week of driving I tripled my take home pay! I was living the good life!

Good heavens, Milr, I didn't think any of you Cracker Box driver's survived. Yeah, 2-60, if you're lucky. I wonder how long a new driver today would last in a truck like that?

I like the vents in the back to catch air flow. :)

Ok...... You are looking at an ex tanker truck for sure. Probably a quest truck. They run 1 tank and DD13's for the weight. The DD13 can be turned up to 455 I believe. If your willing to run an emissions truck, you'd do well with one of those trucks. They're really light due to how they're spec'd. Lighter truck = more weight hauled = more money. Just my $.02
