    Company policy, not regulatory requirements.

    Doesn't matter, it gets done. That's what does matter.

    It does matter when some are passing off company policy as a legal requirement, i.e., posting false information.

    All that was stated in my post was what happened with that logging system. If you want CFR quotations, we can go there.

    Nope, a company reg not a regulatory one. :biggrin_25512:

    You will continue to do things incorrectly until someone points out your mistakes and proves you are incorrect. I certainly hope you will heed the information LostNFound has offered here;

    Now remember anytime you use the flag option that time will be factored out of your drive time and could potentially inflate your average speed causing you to get a violation for speeding (if not from an anal retentive cop then from your logging department).

    As a matter of fact it is common knowledge (especially in the ltl industry)that the POST trip inspection should (and does) take longer than a Pre-Trip inspection. The fact that you also have to document the Post Trip inspection, sign the form, and turn the original into dispatch (or the shop) should have told you that as far as regs are concerned you better be showing more time on your Post Trips than just a "flag."

    Don't feel bad. Many of us did it wrong for years as well. It was LOGSRUS (our friendly logging + compliance member here at TTR) that pointed out I was doing it wrong a couple years back. I argued with her about it and got mad until I actually looked up the regs myself and realized I was in fact wrong. Sucks being wrong but it sucks even more to be wrong and not admit it.

    The safest way to do it now a days is to forget about these flags altogether and simply change the duty status in your logbook for ANY on-duty function; Pre trip, Post Trip, shipper load, Rcvr unload, Hired lumper, Fueled truck, drop, hook, etc

    Hell, you can do a pre-trip every 20 mins of you like (u need that 5 min in between or it would all just be logged on line 4 )

    To be serious tho, you are supposed to do a Pre Trip everyone you come off of line 1 or 2. So after eating lunch u are suppose to log a pre trip, after a 10hr break and after your sleeper birth. I know it sounds ridiculous but I have actually gotten a violation for stopping to eat (off duty not driving) and then going back to driving without a pre trip. So now I just show the 15 min.

    Actually it is assumed that you do do a pretrip on every stop so there should be no need except your company to "flag it".. And to the previous poster, you can ASSUME I'm wrong all you want.

    Should have fought it, or simply stated that you were satisfied the vehicle was in good working order per 392.7 as a result of your pretrip inspection at the beginning of your shift. If there were no equipment violations, then it would be obvious that you were correct. 15 minutes every time you stop is bogus... sounds like something dreamt up by a crooked enforcement officer who needs to be fired.
    Even the FMCSA's own examples don't cater to such nonsense.

    SHC Thanks this.
