You can even find a company out there that would hire you with out a license. If you look under enough rocks that is.

The companies that operate with in the law have to have insurance and the insurance companies write the laws so Congress passes them. When you get into a school and find out just how little they teach you, you will think having a friend show you would have been just as good. But it won't get past the insurance company.

I say yes. And considering how much those truck rental places charge you might as well go to school anyways.

Im willing to bet without schooling you will be forced to resort to some OO who is a borderline sociopath and has you running illegal half the time.

As of last year you could rent a truck with an instructor to take your test for $425 in MN. I'm not sure if they have raised their prices.

Thats not cheap. I know guys who completed a 160 hour course for 900-1200. And then there are some guys who work for family or something and just use their equipment to practice. So for someon with no connections to the trucking world they will want to go to school. If someone has your back and offers a foot in the door that's different.

    .
Something tells me those folks with connections to the industry arent signing up for TTR asking if they need to go to school.....

    .
    .
I dunno tho in the end lol..

you can always obtain your cdl, try to get on with whomever, with or with-out training, preferably with,

if all else fails, attend a school with a pre-hire

we still pull guys out of the warehouse and have them get thier permit then put them on the road with a driver for a few weeks. i do not think we have hired a person with a cdl in almost 15 years, all in house training.

i would go the route that works best for you. how much will the training cost if you do not stay with the company for set amount of time?

Unless my math is off $425 is a fair bit less expensive then $900-$1200????? Factor in one day to go the route I did vs however many days or weeks it takes to complete a class and that $900-$1200 turns into a lot of money.

All i see is people talking about 3 to 9 thousand for training? I did the rent a truck for 1 hour plus walk through and the use of a truck and trailer , cost me 325, of corse that was almost 17 years ago. But a hell of alot cheaper then a school.
