....Or perhaps he's afraid of getting dinged for a service failure because of circumstances he can't control.

That's how I always did it. That and a phone call explaining "I'm doing the best I can". But I wouldn't be driving over Christmas...and if I was, my update call would be straight to the bosses personal phone at about 6am. and 8am. and 10am. and noon and 2pm. and 4pm. and 6pm. and 8pm. Christmas day---just to keep him abreast of my progress.

If he is getting a service failure for weather related delays, he is working at the wrong place.

I'll certainly agree with that, but thanks be to the wonders of HireRight they can trash his chances of going somewhere good if that happens.

Ive been handed service failures for everything reason under the sun. Which is why one of the things I say if you are 15 minutes late to appointment for any reason, there are 50 ready and waiting to replace you in that orientation trailer for half what it costs to pay you to roll it.

The more they fired me for it the more I simply worked around them. There are certain things I will not expose a load in these days or risk problems. If Dispatch cannot or will not understand then I will find another company.

There is nothing wrong with getting there when you get there provided you do your best. A load of widgets that takes a city 5 months to clear inventory does not a Just In time Load make.

There is a massive Colorado low coming through the northern central US and southern Manitoba on Christmas/Boxing Day. They are calling for up to half a metre of snow in some parts. If you are going to make it, you probably would have wanted to leave a while ago.

At the Flying Hook in Rapid City right now getting ready for the White Christmas.
Will head over and do my stocking up at the local Walmart with food, water, propane bottles for the camp stove, gas for the generator, etc. and saving 17 bucks for the over-priced Christmas buffet here at the "Hook".
