That means that intermediate locations might be indeed required. I did not pay attention to it on my Garmin logs. I'll look again next time I am at the truck and see what it shows. That would not be good. However, I switched back to KT after they finely sent me another box but was going to dump it completely when the renewal is due. I hope they will fix it by then.

I was running on Garmin for over two months, while my KT was down. Before I started using it I called a couple of ports of entry to ask what those DOT officials thought of it as being compliant and all of them confirmed that it was good to be used. So your warning makes it a little problematic now. The question is if yours is an isolated case or it is something to do with the way they programmed it in general. If the latter then they will need to fix it asap.

    Yes.
I see that information when I switch status and make a notation in the notes too.

I think it is the term used for the time you are in motion - driving while location is changing.
Even though, you don't stop, they still want to know the name of the nearest location and an ELD is supposed to provide that. Of course that was never required on paper logs.

OK. I've been working on my IFTA and checked Garmin ELD logs. I did not find locations assigned to the intermediate log entries, either.

The intermediate log location seems to be a newer rule that requires ELD system to log location every hour, during drive time - line 3.
Evidently, Garmin - as at least as of last October - when I used it while my KeepTruckin was done, failed to do so. As you can see from the figure below, there are no location entries between Portage, WI and Altoona,WI while the truck was in continuous motion. There were supposed to be two location updates.

If, indeed, these locations are a mandatory DOT requirement with regard to ELD then Garmin needs to do something about it.
I don't think that this rule appliers to paper logs because it is unthinkable that drivers would have to check their locations every hour as their drive.

IMO, that's unnecessary, impractical, of a little merit rule, concocted again by some bureaucratic morons who, I am afraid there are too many, sit there at FMCSA trying to stay busy.

I hope it is fixed by now, or will be soon, because I do want to go back to Garmin ELD when my current subscription to KT ends.
I'll be calling Garmin in the near future and ask about it.

Here's the example of Keep Truckin showing intermediate log locations:

during 3 hours of continuous driving - truck did not stop - the locations were logged automatically by ELD. That requirement did not exist with paper logs.
