Anyone know? Did minor damage to truck. Limb was hanging from tree. Didn't see it until it was too late taking some back roads in the dark and it was foggy.
The road/route was truck legal as trucks go that way all the time. Unfortunately, I was the unlucky driver.
Is hitting a low hanging tree limb a preventable accident?

To me, it was probably "preventable" but a lot depends on whether you you or the normal and expected route to wherever you were authorized to be going.
Did you get lost or miss a turn or not follow preferred truck directions? Going to your girlfriends house in the country or residential area? Going to a job site? Lots of things to consider.
That big tree limb did not materialize overnight. It may or may not have lots of scars from other errant drivers.Last edited: Nov 14, 2017

Depends on company. In the strictest sense it is. You should have seen and avoided it.
In the real world though, if you were in a tight area with little or no room then well... Crap happens.
What did happen anyway? -
Back road. Only one lane. Cars coming opposite direction. Foggy and dark. Did not see it until it was too late

in my earlier years, i did city garbage routes. we had a hurricane. i had to go down my regular streets. tree limbs were hanging down, so was phone lines and electrical lines, by the hanging limbs. i took down everything, no one said a word to me about it, and by the way at 4 AM and NO street lights, ya can't see nuthing.....
so it depends on the circumstances and conditions at the time. i lucked out, you may not. -
If you were my driver in my truck, and are a good driver with no real issues, stuff happens. Part of the job, done it myself in similar conditions.
Grubby, rabbiporkchop, shogun and 2 others Thank this. -
I think it was a given that it was either a "backroad" or a road that trucks otherwise avoided. Even moving companies sometimes have to offload [far from the home] onto pickups to travel the last mile with lots of old established trees and low limbsJustrucking2 Thanks this.

It was very foggy and nowhere to pull over otherwise I would have, but you know how those back roads are. No lights other than my truck lights.

You mean you didn't foresee this with your trip planning? You're fired.
WildTiger1990, bottomdumpin, Grubby and 7 others Thank this. -
If drivers got fired for hitting tree limbs, we'd never have frac sand haulers (or anyone else in the oilfield for that matter).
I think the TREE should be fired....Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.
