If only there were a way to eliminate sleep from our lives. Get more out of our time off and feel a little more lively. But as drivers, we're pretty much just real-life zombies. Sleep for a few hours, stare at the ceiling for several hours, then 1/2 asleep, 1/2 awake the rest of the time.

Some good crank will do it for 2 or 3 weeks.

Could be a team run too. 800 or 1000 out, then back.

Eh, I do not resemble that remark. I sleep just as good in the truck as at home, and have only had to stop for a nap three times in 2.5 years.

    Day out, day back.

You don't want a regional gig if you live longer than an hour away from the terminal.

Just what's needed. More driving on top of all the work driving you already do.

Some of my shuttling nights go quick. Others can stretch out well past the limit due to the plant having full silos and then taking an hour or two to wash trailers and lines. I still try to get into the gym after work as much as possible, as well as doing the 16hr/8hr intermittent fasting thing to get the belly shrunk down.

Of course when it comes to days off, I usually travel 7-8 hours away just to go do things for fun. That drive on top of all the driving I do during the work week tends to sap it out of you. As much as I like the small town atmosphere, I'm beginning to think there's not that much I partake in here locally and may have to consider a big city move sometime soon.

Some of our linehaul drivers stay out one night by choice. Myself I return home daily. Call me anything but late for dinner!

I have managed to at one time do just that eliminate sleep. My personal record for continous trucking is just about 10 complete days and nights.

HOWEVER the doctors got a hold of me and I lost a week while they fed a variety of chemicals, nutrients and other good things that my body stripped during that time before collapse. YOU WILL go to sleep at some point. That was pretty much the last time I rolled that hard personally. I'll go for a few days and nights short of war or whatever great need, but I don't make a habit of it.

The worst feeling is when you are asleep with eyes open at 70 mph coming up on people unable to do anything about it with that 18 wheeler. Heh.
