Lots of guys don’t know how it works. You learn a lot out on the road...especially when you own the truck. Most of the time, a driver snaps a couple pics. Some of the trucks, some of the damage, some ICC numbers, DOT numbers and base plates. That ain’t good enough.

You need the pictures to tell YOUR story. Basically it’s like if the other person has eyewitnesses, and everyone on that team gives a statement that you were the one that goofed, you’re going no not say one word, but show your pics and discredit the other person and all of his eyewitness too with just your pictures.

Excellent advice as usual Six, although keep in mind if you are at fault those same pictures can hang you. Once taken you can not legally destroy them until the claim is settled and if the other driver is smart he will inform his insurance company and they will ask for them.

I had an event in Harrisburg, PA back in June 2010, someone backed into my truck resulting in a broken grill. He came up to me to talk about it, I started snapping pictures right away and collecting info, including a image of him looking at the truck. Had it not been for my personal dash cam he could have got away with his claim that I drove into him, the layout was correct for it to look like I did and no other cameras nearby. This is why even in my personal vehicles I have installed dash cameras that record 24/7 with large SD cards so they can save multiple events at one time. They are always on and automatically save 120 seconds around an event, 60 before and 60. If I still owned trucks today they would all have cameras covering front and back or at least front and both sides just for events like this.

Bottom line, document every little detail right down to the weather as this can help the investigators get a very clear picture of what led to the incident.

Sitting at a Pilot in Franklin Tennessee right now against my better Judgement. Had 8 minutes left on the clock with whatever was holding up traffic on 65 today.

Pulled in Nose First. .much quieter since I mostly sleep with the motor off.

And if the Butchers want to hit my tank , get in line, the night time yard Jockey has bent every fender and light box on them .

Why do people assume things are the same everywhere? Where I live in California they will tell you flat out that they do not respond to accidents that occur on private property. That's a civil matter and none of their concern.

that's what i was told when i was at the I-78 T/A in NJ. (i forget the city/town name)

a fairly new Schneider driver backed into my truck, and tried getting away. i got up out of bed, and (i did have my pants on) ran around after him, and caught him. when i told him he backed into my truck, all he could say was..."i did"...??

i called HIS company first, then MY company, and was told to call the police. when i did, i was flat out told, they do not respond to private property crashes, and i'd have to go to the police station to file a complaint.

i then called back my safety guy, and he said, "forget about it, you got all the information we need from you"

i was told at a later time when i followed up on this, that Schneider had to pay "just under" $3,000 for the damages and "supposedly", the newbie driver was fired for leaving the scene of an accident.

i should point out too, that i chased him, carrying a ball peen hammer. or better known as, my "tire thumper"

i could have cared less then, as i do now, if that jerkwad, ever got hired elsewhere with a "hit and run"

correct. the "little crap", no big deal to me as well. however, a hit and run is a big deal, cuz then i'd have some "splain'in to do for the damages....
