Most trucking companies closed their schools years ago/ What you'll do is go through the training (start applying for jobs NOW) and then when accepted by one or more carriers, flip a coin, try and choose one that has a terminal and frieght lanes as near to your house as possible. You will almost assuredly have to go through a period of training with a trainer (most are just a means of moving freight to make up for poor dispatching, breakdowns or for the company's low performers) and then you'll get back to a main terminal, be tested out with a member of the training or safety department, be issued a truck and all THEN you start generating revenue for yourself, by yourself. Best of luck and thanks for your service..

What gets me about the schools is the fact that they give you the answers to the tests non stop so you can get your permit... Did the student honestly learn anything?? Also they let you drive on the same exact route that you will take for your road test, is that really teaching them how it is in the real world??

This is what I remember. $3k to pass a test. But it makes the insurance company happy because it looks good on paper.

Lets say you are lucky enough to know an O/O who will help you get your CDL...teach you all there is to know to pass your tests and use his truck for the road test...then he hires you on to drive his truck or one of his trucks if he has more then one. You drive for him for lets say 2 years, and then for whatever reason he folds and you need to look for another job. Will you still need to attend a school in order for a carrier to hire you even though you do have the 2 years experience with no "diploma"?

Hitman: if your next employer was able to verify that you worked otr for 2 years then you would not need to go to school
