Like the others have said you don’t want to go in blind. Spend 2 to 3 years working for a company. You could do your first at a large company that will train you and then do the last 2 with a mom and pop that let’s you see what they go thru.

This game is not like a computer simulation. You won't just automatically make more money with bonuses because you just put in the time and cheat codes. There is a LOT of work, and there's not just mechanical breakdowns to worry about, there's also the "aw, crap" mistakes. Like when a gust of wind blew my door out of my hand, bent all the hinges, and so now I've got a blast of icy air coming in right at my head. $500 in just hinges to replace them, plus labor to swap them out and adjust to close properly. Kinda like blown tires, sometimes they just happen. Not to mention the other mechanical breakdowns. I don't have my paperwork with me, but I spent over $20k on parts, maintenance, breakdowns, etc last year. And that's not counting the lost revenue, and the house bills that still had to be paid.
I don't know how many guys need to tell you to do this differently than you're planning, before you'll actually listen. It's not that we don't want the competition, because you're really irrelevant for most of our markets. You asked for advice, everyone's telling you the SAME THING, but you seem bound and determined to find a justification that proves the vast majority wrong, and you'll be that Cinderella story that validates the underdog.
    It. Won't. Work.

Buy me out for I don't know, 750,000? I'll tell you all the secrets where to get work how to do it how to save on fuel run the authority do all the filings, everything, and I'll mentor you for 1 year. It would be a turn key operation for you and if you want more trucks all you gotta do is add them. I don't want to go that route, but maybe you do. You get a 2016 389 and a 2018 great Dane reefer as seen in my pic. You will have to find someone to drive it.

    * my authority is clean except for 1 "disobey traffic device" warning. It may have fallen off by now, I don't know. My insurance is also 5 star rated and I get 10% off.

Again, what is your plan for convincing an experienced driver to leave their current job and risk their financial well-being to help you get your business off the ground? What do you have to offer to get them away from their current job? That’s the big part that you’re ignoring. I’ve been driving since 1997 and have around 10 years experience pulling a flatbed in the Northwest and I can guarantee there is absolutely zero that would make me take a chance on someone with one truck wanting me to do all the work while they learn how the trucking business works while sitting at home. If you want to buy a truck then you need to drive it and load yourself from the load boards and learn how it all works. If you have an employee they won’t have much respect for you, and it won’t be because you’re young. It will be because you don’t really know how things go out on the road.

To your answer: No. I started authority 1.5 years ago and had no problem. After 3 months most brokers would hire me. Before that I had one customer and a few brokers. Had two direct customers since I started. Lost one and now am down to one.
