For the record, i can drive both im currently in a 2021 579 with the auto and i love it, but i started on a good old Eaton Fuller 10 Speed Cascadia.....so please dont knock people as being lazy for driving an auto....doesn't make me any less a truck driver than a driver rowing gears all day.......

I'am not knocking anybody that drives a auto ... just threw a dig at the 1s that settle of the restriction on their CLD unless it was for Physical Disabilities... that I respect & understand

I learned, tested out and trained on a 10 Speed. No restrictions on my CDL. The first Tractor I was seated in as a Solo Driver was an Auto. Driven auto ever since. I pull a Dry Van..OTR. I can drive either....but... I really prefer the auto shift. Work smarter, not harder.

An auto shift is definitely not smarter. Just easier for companies to put meat in the seat.
