Not only is it ok it's a wise thing to do... Now whether or not you get answers, verbally or written, may not happen or may not be close to reality but simply asking questions is always ok.

I've been very lucky that I signed up with a fairly straight forward company but even here have had some misunderstandings. But much better than most are experiencing out there.

Do not believe recruiter b.s. Chances are when they guarantee something there is a whole new list of conditions to be met that they will "forget" to mention

Even if someone guarantees you $0.75 a mile if you only get 300 miles a week you are going to have a tough time paying the bills and good luck getting someone to guarantee you a specific amount of mileage to equate to a decent paycheck

Francis Drilling Fluids had a $465 per day guarantee for company drivers back in two Christmases ago but that guarantee only applied to the Pennsylvania drivers.

Roy struble Trucking had a $400 per day guarantee as well at the same time but those are getting harder to come by nowadays

Like others have said, alot of these big mega companies have orientation every week where 100 drivers come into the company and at the same time 100 leave. Hearded in like a bunch of cattle. Some megas are better then others in regards to how they respect drivers, keep them rolling, and get them home on time. You have to earn your fleet managers respect by getting loads delivered on time, and no whining! Try to pick a company that has apu's for your comfort. Any company that wont let you idle and doesn't have apu's isn't wort going to imo.

Just remember the big freight companies got big for a Reason by screwing their drivers.
