Is it possible to have fixed spread axles moved?

    I know my truck is not set up for this. I assume you have some kind of solenoid set up where you can dump from the cab? What kind of costs would be involved in getting this set up if the trailer is equipped for it and also if the trailer was not equipped for it?

    I think the last solenoid I bought was in the $40 range. It's pretty easy to wire it up, I like using the 4 pole round plugs. If you don't have any spare switches on your dash you'll have to wire one in.

    ....for what it's worth: I have a long nose, @ 265" wheelbase, pull 48' spread axles. Have no dump valve setup. 18" kingpin. And I deliver to jobsites in and around the 5 boroughs, as well as Boston area jobsites. Maybe 1 in a hundred I can't get into.

    I'm no supertrucker. It can be done. Takes some time and practice. Being in a rush will #### you every time.

    Get the right tool for the job, and take your time n do it right. Don't worry so much ;)

    @Bdog:do you use/need your dumptruck on every jobsite you work on?

    No. Two seperate businesses really. We have a backhoe and skid steer and dump truck and do dirt work locally. Never have traveled more than 25 miles or so doing this type of work.

    The other work where we need the big truck is completely different. We travel usually 2-500 miles to these jobs and the dump truck stays home. We haul a specialized rubber tracked machines and utility vehicles to those jobsites.

    My last truck was a 300" wb, trailer was 57'6" long, some places were a real PITA but I always got it were the customer wanted it.

    I found this trailer for sale about 7 hours away.It is a Jet 35 ton 48'. It has the tandems but they are pretty far back. The slope leading to the upper deck would be nice for loading my stuff up there. It is about 5k more than the other one I posted though. Thoughts on it?

    That looks like it would be perfect for what you are wanting to do. You can either deal with the off tracking or tail swing. Personally I would rather deal with the off tracking, I can see that better.

    Now that you have said that you haul rubber tracked and utility vehicles, there would be no issue with you offloading in the street if you need to.

    Me personally, I prefer a sliding axle but that is probably out of your price range so I would go with something like that Jet you posted. Nothing wrong with that trailer.

    @Bdog either trailer you posted would probably work just fine. If you go with the spread an electric dump valve can be added to the rear axle for a couple hundred dollars by any competent trailer shop. Then you just have to run a hot wire for it to the front of the trailer and add an additional plug plus a plug on the tractor wired to a hot switch on the dash.

    However for the type of work your doing I wouldn't worry about a switch in the cab, either have the trailer shop set it up with a manual dump valve where you have to walk back and flip the valve or an even better setup which I would prefer is the electric valve then add a switch back by the tail lights where it draws the power off your lights. Lights on - switch on - air dumped, Lights off - switch on - not dumped and lights off/on - switch off - air not dumped. So by leaving your lights off and hitting the switch you can selectively dump the valve by using your parking lights. Also if you forget to switch it off and head out assuming it's light out and your not running your lights you won't be running down the road with the axle dumped.
