Is it possible to make good money hauling containers (intermodal)?

    I think every company is slowly, per their insurance carrier, changing their requirements for O/O's to sign on. Even though we only hire on independents, our insurance company has now said that they must have at least 3 yrs driving exp. and 3 yrs exp. as an owner operator, they have also set forth some minimum insurance requirements for them as well.

    The business is changing and requiring 3 years of experience is helping the megacarriers with cheap labor but sni is the only megacarrier with a decent owner operator program, I'm hitting 4 years trucking later this year and I really can't wait to get off the road and be a pencil pusher to see if Is as bad as some people tell me.

    Six drivers I'm my company have been fired YTD due to insurability......one of them had been with the co. For 5 years.....

    Saw a truck on 84 coming out of the BX last Thursday hauling their new chassis. Very nice chassis

    If you stay away from MMT out of Columbus, OH you can make decent money. If you haul for them you will go broke and be living under a bridge somewhere. I would never haul containers again. Rail yard beats trucks up. That's why most guys drive old trucks. The containers are crap. DOT loves container haulers. You can count on tires being bad, brakes, lights, etc...

    I've been doing piers for 15 years and yes you can make good money the problem is when the piers are bad or the dispatcher is and idiot ! Because when it comes to ocean containers there is no room for mistake . Stay away from the rails they pay cheap Especially CSX Mountain air

    No, lack of maintenance is why guys drive old junk trucks. Does the truck in my avatar look like junk? All of our trucks are 2010 and newer and are maintained religiously, The truck in my avatar was new in 2009, when it was sold off in Mar. 2015 with 578K, aside from a faded bumper and rock chips on the hood, it looked and ran like it did when it was brand new, why because it was driven, maintained and treated like it was supposed to be. It wasn't abused or neglected.
