looking at the position of the trailer-end, I have my doubts that he's pulling out, though it IS possible. Pulling out, I'd expect the tail end of the trailer to be much closer to the tractor on the right - but that may be just me and the sloppy way I drive.
Is it possible to park from this position?

Bags of room. Assuming the driver is backing, look at the extra space in front of the hole he's backing into, courtesy of the short rigs parked in them. Smart driver. Plenty of room to swing the nose of the truck using that extra space that doesn't exist in most of the other areas.
-
Actually it's only one space with a short rig -- not as nice as two, but it will still give the backing rig extra swinging room.
-
LOL, I, too, thought it was two spaces. Now I have a reason to hate dark blue cabs!
(hay, it's as good as any other reason) -
Is Somebody is looking at a differant picture than I am ???
I even pulled it onto my laptop and cleaned it up with Adobe Photo. And yes, I see the "offset" of the opening directly acroos from the truck he is backing beside. Seriously, I think he was pulling out.
No way in hell is he going to get it in with just 1 or 2 pull ups.
His reefer unit is "just" going to clear the tractor facing him, which would be about the time he would have to start swinging his tractor back under the trailer. And the trailer does not appear to be dropping in the hole fast enough, if at all due to the extreme angle.
Even allowing for the tractor to pass, before coming back under the trailer. He has to consider tail swing. Which is now VERY close to the truck on his immediate left. So he can not continue on his backwards movement much further, if at all, while still trying to get under the trailer.
That's my take of it. He will be at a full 80-90 degree angle, with no where to swing the cab or tail, once it's set in the hole opening.
Of course, I'm not really there to observe it in person. I can only see 2-D -
I think you are over calculating shadows. He has a lot of room to his right (silver truck), his trailer won't go back any further because of the angle. It will start swinging towards to silver truck. When it gets close to the silver truck, he will have the room to pull up. If he's pulling out, he can back it in. -
It looks like to me his truck is at it's point where the trailer won't go back any further and the trailer will spin to where he needs it. But the important part that a few forget is too watch the front of the trailer.
-
it all hinges on tandem position, even with them all the way back he would be REALLY REALLY close to the truck beside his tractor. if the tandems are anywhere but ALL THE WAY BACK i dont see it happening.
-
Why do you say that? If the tandems are all the way back or all the way forward, the end of the trailer is still going to swing the same distance. He is moving left to right because of the angle of the truck. If he was moving forward or backwards, that's when the tandem position matters. If you can imagine a line from the steers, past the drives, and continuing past the reefer to the parked truck. You will see he has room if he follows the trailer fro a foot or two. It's tight but, he has room. -
MAYBE, IT'S KINDA HARD TO TELL WITH THE SHADOW. BUT FORGET THE FRONT FOR A SEC. IF THE TANDEMS WERE ALL THE WAY BACK, THE PIVOT POINT WOULD BE FURTHER BACK, SO PICTURE HIM CONTINUING BACK, TO CLEAR THE TRACTOR HE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO GO PAST STRAIGHT TO GET CLEAR. WITH THE TANDEMS ALL THE WAY BACK AND TRAILER PIVOTED PAST "SQUARE" THE END OF TRAILER WOULD BE CLOSE TO EVEN WITH TANDEMS. IF THE TANDEMS WERE FORWARD MORE, ONCE HE GOT PAST STRAIGHT THE END OF TRAILER WOULD BE FURTHER TO (OUR) RIGHT THAN THE TANDEMS. THAT WAS THE WAY I WAS LOOKING AT IT. DOES THAT SOUND LOGICAL?
oops sorry 'bout the caps LOL
