I know i haven't started yet but i like read and watch videos about everything in the trucking industry.

This guy is making it sound so easy just buy a truck and trailer and make all kinds of money. The list he shows of what the pay is to haul produce from the usda and he is making it sound like it's so easy. I doubt it's as simple as just looking at a list pick some high dollar frieght and move. I seriously doubt it works that way. Also how many people have access to that frieght and how consistent would it be? He is talking about netting 7k a week yeah that may be true but how consistently?

Now don't think i'm thinking about jumping right into owner op after a year I'm not naive like some people. I just like to research future opportunities to make more money.

No it's not that simple. And I highly doubt he is netting 7k a week.

It's a little smelly of BS. If you ask me.

Dumb Dumbs follow the siren song of easy money. Especially if you can get someone to sing it to the right tune with the right amount of BS applied in correct dosing.

If you want some money, gravel a acre or so of a lot, buy 30 trailers, rent them at 400 a month to people. Keep a tractor on call to retrieve them. The trailers are a few thousand dollars each used plus whatever is necessary to bring em back to DOT code 100% inspected and rolling with the rental.

Theres a lot to it since if it was that easy then everyone would be doing it. You wouldnt hear about o/o going broke do to slow fright or lease drivers turning in their truck after the first 6 months.

Watched some of his earlier videos and he only has 1 year otr before he went out and started leasing. He went to Interstate first but then got fired for messing up on a load that cost them 9k in fees. Then stared bouncing around and not naming what company he drives for since people like to call the company and complain about him.

His slogan is Im making all kindz of money so now trying to get people to follow his youtube account so he can make that youtube money as well.

Yeah i've been watching him along with others for awhile. He says he lives with parents and has no bills so that's why he may do well at times.

I have no idea what guy your referring to so i'll just try to share 25 years in this business with you briefly. First, 7k a week net isn't that hard to believe. If you have your own customer that you direct bill. In other words, you talk to the person at that company writing the check, not a broker or a dispatcher of the company that you are leased to. In my opinion the only two ways to make that a week is if you have your own authority or doing some shady stuff. But let's be optimistic, if he's on the up and up then it's doable. You have to hustle but the biggest thing in my opinion is how you dole out your settlements. Create a maint account and build it to around 15k in it so that if you have a catastrophic breakdown then your not scrambling. I personally put in .10 cpm for all miles, not just dispatched, you can build that account quickly if your disciplined. Secondly, don't be scared to hit the internet and make phone calls to try to secure your own accounts. This of course if your wanting to be a true independent. Lastly, pick out a reasonable pay rate for yourself separate from the truck pay. No sense in paying yourself a dollar a mile if after everything is paid your truck net's 1.05 a mile. Just be smart and hustle and you can make 7k net a week, just don't expect that kind of money to fall into your lap. And yes I've owned multiple trucks, had a brokerage and know the games they play. Good luck if you decide to follow through with becoming an independent.

It may be true he hits a $7K week now and then, but it is likely the exception rather than the rule.

I'm leased on with a company that serves the oil industry. It's expedited service and the tariffs are high. My target is to generate an average of $20K per month to the truck, pay myself 25%, and build a healthy maintenance reserve to keep the pony running. I run flatbed and sometimes haul Hazmat in Totes, which pays about a 30% premium.

I've talked to reefer runners that do about that well, but they run under their own authority and have a few years under their belt. You don't get that kind of consistent revenue leased on to a carrier on reefer, at least from what I have come across.
