Fuel is a taxable write off as an operating expense. But not idling is just plain the right thing to do....unless needed for proper rest. No two drivers are alike, one driver may be perfectly comfortable in a hot sweaty environment and get a warm fuzzy feeling that they have just saved their company (who couldn't care less about them if they wanted to) a few bucks while the next driver simply gets little to zero actual rest, let alone any sleep, trying to follow a company guideline. Even by the broadest definitions of "safety" its not safe for any driver nor the public we share the highways with when he/she can not get proper rest due to some CEO on a ball busting mission. Someone said it cuts into profits....sure it does, just like the AC and heat in a terminal. But whats good for the goose is certainly good for the gander.. When a company is serious about upping their profit then it will be noticed across the board instead of singling out segments of the work force even though that segment does collectively uses the most energy. I have to think its more about micro managing drivers than anything else. Let these scumbags move their desks out into the parking lot with only a small canopy for protection on a 95 or 100 day or turn the AC up to an insane level of warmth in the terminals and then I will know they are really serious about upping profits. Its against the law to treat an animal the way some drivers are treated...disgusting.

It's not about the company for me, it's about the fact I like breathing clean air. I like being able to see snow covered mountain peaks instead of brown smog. And I hate sleeping in a vibrating bed.

I was with a driver the other day that just came out of Otay Mesa, and he said that 27 trucks where ticketed for idling, during the day in the Pilot. One was a Swift. He asked the officer about the Clean Air Sticker on the truck, and they said that they did not care. The ticket was not cheap. CA is getting ridiculous.

Ok gonna throw in another twist. What if you are a team? Have you tried sleeping in the heat with 2 bodies in the sleeper. We have 2 fans, windows open, vents open an it is just rediculous! We have gotten those high idle msgs an it is very disheartening. If ya dont want us to idle then run us!!!!

I would like to think those high idle msgs. were just the generic msgs that get sent out in the summer months. I'm sure they were not singling you out. And if they were ## 'em. Who wants to work for a co. that puts their profit over your safety. That's prolly every company out there though huh?

OMG you sound like a freakin idiot dispatcher!!! No fan is gonna help when it's 95 degrees still at midnight!!! Window screens my ###!! I will not risk my life with my windows open in some of these places. It only takes once to get a bullet in your head!

You go right ahead and adapt or suffer. ME I won't do it when everyone I work for goes home and sleeps comfortably.

When it's nice outside I won't idol the truck but I will idol if it is UN comfortable and I need to drive 600 miles the next day.

I know I shouldn't but I have to comment. Why are you flipping out on someone who is trying to be helpful and then making comments about people letting themselves get screwed when you're the one putting up with the treatment you find unacceptable?

If someone really intended to do harm rolled up windows aren't going to stop them anyway. The screens work out pretty well but you don't want to hear that.

I use the screens all the time. Glass will not stop a bullet any more effectively than the screens with the hard plastic latticework on them. Besides. I refuse to live my life in phobic paranoia that someone is out to git me. If I want fresh air in my truck, well, by Gosh, I'm gonna have it. With my "security" screens in place.

I can't find anywhere in this thread where someone has said you shouldn't idle when it's 95* out. That's unreasonable and ridiculous. However, it is not unreasonable to request you shut the truck off when you're not in it or when the temperature is moderate.

I have been one of your biggest supporters in months past and have bent over backward to give you room to grow. You seemed like you had a pretty reasonable expectation of this industry and of Swift when we met in Idaho. Since then, it has been moaning, whining, complaining and b****ing. Seems nothing is right in your world and you think Swift is the root of all your ills.

To the question that is the title of your thread, h***, yeah, it's time for you to move on. Go find some company that will give you a brand new truck with an APU, 2,500W inverter, refrigerator and jacuzzi, you only have to run 2,000 miles/week, home every weekend plus holidays, kids' birthdays and Aunt Millie's bunyon surgery and your paycheck is $2,000/week after taxes whether you run or not. And good luck in your future endeavors.

Lookingforward, AZS, 123456 and 2 others Thank this.
