Is it true that we're going to have less hrs on the road? I hear on the news, and that the demand for drivers is high

I don't know where they got that from. Oh yeah... they are figuring that since you can only take one 34 restart in a 7 day period that will bite into things.

But many can't seem to figure this one out. it isn't that there has to be 7 days between restarts, it just means that you cannot begin another restart until 128 hrs (7 days) from the start of the last 34 hr reset. That would give you the ability to still do plenty of driving.

Let's look at this closer. Say you begin a reset at 10pm on Friday. You would be able to meet the two 0100-0500 requirements as part of the reset, and be able to start work at 0800 on Sunday. So, you could drive Sunday thru Friday and be able to begin another reset at 10pm on Friday. That is 70 hours of driving in 6 days, or just over 11 hrs a day. Same as now, really. They just put a couple of speed bumps in the process, but once you get your arms around how this will work, I don't think very many drivers will have big time issues in dealing with the new rules. It will mess up some operations. Any new regulation is bound to bite someone in the backside.

In the real world, this change amounts to no change for most drivers.
The 34 hour reset you count is the one where you reset your hours to 70, no changing it. And if you are setting around enough to get two every 7 days, you are not working very much.

Exactly !! If you can do two 34 hour rests than you really don't need to worry about the hours in the 1st place. There isn't any thing that says you have to do a reset.

but when your on eobr. i don't see how you can get around it if you ended up sitting twice for 34 hours.

but yeah. that would be the talk. less driving hours in order to avoid a restart. and using a recap instead.

you thought it's bad finding a place to park now. wait till the hos start next july.

one line of code added to the eobr, and only one 34 hour reset in 168 hours.
two more lines of code to enforce the 1am to 5 am provision.

so less miles per truck equals more low paying trucking jobs and more trucks parked for longer periods will also mean more low paying truck stop jobs ......and to boot everything at wm will cost more but if everyone is on food stamps i guess it will even out except who pays for the food stamps

There is also the mandatory 30 min break. There is the argument that it reduces drive time available for permitted and seasonal loads.

I have been trying to figure out how so many are having problems with that darn 30 min break provision. You can take the 30 min anywhere between the 3rd and 8th hr of driving to be compliant to drive 11 hrs. You can use it for myriad of purposes one would spend time on anyway, ilke getting a shower (wish more drivers would take the time to do this), checking emails, making those phone calls, updating spreadsheets, booking loads, or other business paperwork for those that own their own trucks. And a casual look out across a truck stop, one can determine that a brisk 20 min walk would do many drivers some good. And anyone who will sit in a seat for a full 11 hrs without getting out to at least water the weeds is asking for some serious medical problems, be it kidney issues, lower leg thrombosis, etc. It just isn't healthy, by anyones standards, to stay glued to that seat for so long. And 30 min is not going to eat up much of the 14 hrs and none of the 11. And any time at a customer that is off duty fills the requirement. No, you do not have to be on duty, each and every minute, you are at a customer location. Those that are getting their panties in a wad over the 30 min break provision really haven't thought it thru and making the whole thing a red herring.
