It will be successful to the amount of effort you put into it. If you take any old school and job that comes around you might last a year. But if you plan out what you want and go after it you maybe might just make a good living at it.

There's so many people starting over and going into trucking you just can not sit back and let others determine your future. Make a business plan but instead of having a business make it your career. Do alot of research AND leg work. Start with big goals and work down. Some new drivers take a school that a company pays for and then go off and work for that company. Some do it because it's the easy way. Some make it past the first year and some don't. It's fine if you know exactly what you're getting into but I believe they settled for that path because it's easy.

Find out what school is best for you then do the same for the company you want to work for. Nobody can tell you what will work best for you because there's too many variables in your life. You may have a family that you want to be around or you may just want to get out on the road and stay there. You may have commitments that only you know of and you'll need to work around that. So making a plan gives you a picture on what to shoot for. Just don't go one way either. You'll want to have a plan that if plan A doesn't work you go to plan B and so on. Like I said before, you'll want to start looking at the top and work down. I know I'd drive myself crazy if I got into a sub-standard job thinking maybe I could have done better if I looked elsewhere.

I would not get into trucking if I could go back and have another go at it, as I believe the future of this industry is very bleak. There are too many forces conspiring to make the already low wages even lower. These forces seek to drive the blue-collar American trucker out of the business by hook or by crook and replace him\her with cheap labor south-of-the-border.
Of course, that's just my opnion and you're free to take it or leave it as you see fit.
