I did see 32 foreign ports. Anyway, trucking isn't glamorous, but it still beats punching a time clock. I tried the time clock routine and felt like life just isn't worth it if this is what it takes to make a living. Sure, trucking has changed with the times, but how many drivers would actually stop driving to punch a time clock. There's nothing stopping them now.
Is it worth it?

terminals, truck stops, rest area's, ramps, docks, store parking lots and the occasional hotel/motel is about glamorous as it gets for a solo driver. will a team get such perks?

Abilene in Richmond, VA... I run with them now and my wife is joining me next spring/summer.
One of Abilene's main lanes is I40 and we have a few teams running that lane coast to coast on a regular basis. And other loads as they pop up since we are a 48 State carrier.
Drop me a PM if you have questions.
True hometime may be limited but you can also have a Date Night in just about any city you may be sitting in and if you drive for several weeks at a shot, you can then take a week or so off at home.
So, both Pros and Cons... just like life.Last edited: Oct 6, 2016
Lorinsnow Thanks this. -
Well, I have yet to see anyone paint team driving as "glamorous".... and it's long hours of driving separately... but many perks too.
We plan on seeing our families more when we are in the area for a 34 or taking hometime when we are in their area... we plan on seeing a lot of beautiful country as we drive... been here a year and my wife is rather jealous of the scenes that I have seen.
I have no clue about the "lack of freedom of a decade ago" and could care less about "the golden age"... neither plays a roll in a decision today... it is what it is today... not during the golden era... is it work, yup... are they working now... yup... as a nurse (so is my wife) if team couple doesn't work, she can return to Nursing... they are very much in demand.
So risk it... roll the dice... jump in the deep end.
Not much risk of the sever down side for a couple like yourselves... try it, if you like it, stay... if you don't... return to nursing.
It really is that simple. And yes, $100k is doable.Lorinsnow, dca, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
tonight I'm parked curbside waiting for the shipper to open, tomorrow might be a pull-out, won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Thank you all for all of the comments and insight. I really appreciate it! I have to laugh when anyone mentions "glamour!" If you only knew the things I have seen, smelled, touched, etc! No glamour in nursing and not expecting any in driving, if the Lord moves us that way!
Now, for questions about driving school. How long does it take? Since I'm still working full time, not sure how the training will be achieved. What is the cost?
Also, I'm fairly short and upper body strength is not great. Will I always be loading/unloading, or are there drivers that just drop off loads? -
You and your husband is making much more then you would team driving. If teams made that a year then there wouldn't be such a high turnover rate. Each person in teams aren't making what a solo driver. For example a company pays drivers 40 cents per mile, teams would make 35 cpm split. Here's an article I found that might be for an interesting read.http://www.truckdriverssalary.com/
