Depends on the company and truck.
Here at Abilene our fleet is 100% Autos and we only haul "no touch freight".... sure sometimes we will work up a sweat but not often.
If you are concerned about your body type being an issue in trucking, drop @Flattie C a PM (Start Conversation) ... she recently started driving for us here at Abilene and is a very petite young lady... and dang if she doesn't rack up the miles.
Plus, as a "Team Couple" most carriers will want your wheels rolling and moving frieght and not stopped unloading product.
Team Couples are very desired in this industry... after a bit of experience and a safe driving record you and your husband can be extremely picky in the company you wish to work for and the type of frieght you haul...
As an experienced proven Team Couple, you two will be in the driver's seat in more ways than just moving a load from Point A to Point B.Lorinsnow Thanks this. -
Many trucking companies will reimburse you for cdl school tuition. It usually shows on the website if they reimburse or not, but ask anyway for any company you contact. Some companies reimburse as much as 6K or $7k.
For Old Dominion, call and ask which school they recognize.
Freymiller and TWT Refrigerated Service hire from about any 160 hr. school.
How close are you to Drumright,OK because there's a good school there.
Google : CDL Schools (your town/city).
Before quitting your job, get a DOT Physical from a doctor that's certifited to give DOT physicals. If you pass the physical, then continue by looking for a school. If there's a school near you, maybe they will recommend a DOT certified doctor. -
I have never seen where teams make less CPMs than solos... true if you look at the CPM per driver it might be less than solo BUT you are getting that lower CPM on EVERY MILE that the truck moves... higher CPM to the Truck which is then split to both drivers.
Here, I make 37 CPM for every mile I drive... if I were a team then it's like 45 CPM to the truck which is then spilt in two for each driver.
And a Team Couple would likely make more than a regular team and both halves are going to the same household.
Is there something I am missing?
I will go read your linked article for sure.
Thanks. -
@Chinatown ... who is that one Couple that ran with OD for awhile??? Paid off a couple houses and banked a nice sum? Then wife "retired" from trucking and hubby bought a Truck for cash and now drives solo???
They certainly made more than the average two solo drivers for sure. Ran hard but clearly made bank. -
Didn't see anything on that link for teams or team couples. Maybe I missed something.
-
Its not there but it gives an estimate what solos make.Alittle biit of mathwork would be needed to guess what teams make.
-
Youre pretty acurate but with starter companies many don't have the miles to keep teams happy.
-
Thus the term "starter company"... stay long enough to get experience and a safe record... then move along to the "not starter company"
