Ok I can relate. My wife is a nurse and I team with my best friend. I love my wife but there might be to much together time.
100k no sweat if you choose right company. I am currently on dedicated lane and am home for 24 hours every three days. Taking 9 weeks off this year we are on track to make 88k each.
If you do decide to go otr have a plan and stick to it. Good luck !!
Is it worth it?

I'm glad you said you can get the physical first. I'd hate to go through all that, then not pass the physical! My husband has been driving for about 11 years so he can't remember what all his original physical entailed. He does recall balance, vision, blood pressure. Does not recall much else. Anyone taken the initial physical recently?

I'm about an hour from drumright. That would be a good option, if they are a reputable school.

That's them... thanks!
@blairandgretchen ... have any words of advise to this potential Team Couple?blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Yes, OTR for a bit over a year... it's basically screening out for high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, and verifying general health...
Physically they have you push this sled from here to there... and back... step up and down a few steps on a latter (think getting in and out of the cab) and a few other minor things to get BP up a bit then evaluate how long it takes to recover to a normal level.
I would recommend getting a "real" eval as the one I got for school could have been phoned in from my bed.
As a nurse, you should probably have contacts or friend of a friend that can give you the medical specifics of a DOT Physical.
If you are in decent health the DOT physical should not be an issue... (have you seen some drivers???)Lorinsnow Thanks this. -
Yes, good school. Central Tech Truck Driver Training and it's a 210 hr. course. Most good companies want 160 hr. course, so this school fits the bill and has small classes also.
As far as the physical, it's quite simple and even some CVS Pharmacies are certified to do them. Don't volunteer any information to a DOT doctor; some of them aren't even doctors and aren't required to be, but they are required to register with the government as certified to give DOT physical.
As for companies to apply with, all cdl schools push certain companies, but you can choose any you want and are not required to choose one the school pushes. Some of those companies they list on their website couldn't pay me enough to work there. They don't know though because it's their job to give the student a good cdl education and acquire their cdl license. The job placement is secondary and not important. We've already given you the best companies to apply with.Lorinsnow Thanks this. -
DOT physicals are strict on blood pressure.
If you tell them you're on BP meds, you get a 12 mos. card.
If you tell them you're not on BP meds, you get a 24 mos. card.Lorinsnow Thanks this. -
No. You will NOT make $100k teaming for your first year with two new drivers. You'll be lucky to make 80.
Give it a year or two and yes, you can beat $100k by rather a lot. IF you are willing to be on the road for 300 days a year. -
My husband has 11 years experience, including tanker, haz mat and refrigeration. Just not long haul trucking. Would there be more pay involved for his experience, or would my inexperience be detrimental to him?
