Don't take this wrong but as a victim of a teenage driver when I was in my 20's, I came to the conclusion we don't need more stupid drivers on the road so to me the first clue she isn't mature enough to drive a truck is the first accident - don't assume that it is cheap to fix things you break.
Is it worth trying for her cdl

I hope I don't feel the wrath of the women on here and it's just my own personal opinion, but if I had a daughter I would not want her to be in the lifestyle that a truck driver would consist of:spending time at truck stops, in shipping and receiving yards, warehouses, distribution centers, etc ...no that's not the kind of environment I would want for my daughter.again that's just my own personal opinion to each their own.
Lucar, "semi" retired and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
Give it some more time, and she should try other things first.
Now as to the last accident, nearly all drivers are judged as contributing and partially responsible,, which is why DOT recorded accidents that aren't your fault tend to follow you, and the insurance companies see it this way for darned sure, no matter who was at fault.TruckerGonnaBe and Leftlane101 Thank this. -
Has she thought about being a stunt driver?
unloader, Wild Murphy, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
I doubt any trucking company will hire her until she has a 10 yr. record with no accidents or tickets.

Let's try to see something positive. Anyone can turn it around. Pretty poor history, but older now. I have 2 sons, one was a total screwup, the other one was both smarter and luckier. Both turned out OK. Me? I was a gear head, street racer, hard partier, like a lot of you drivers saying no today. One thing...if she does go for it, a big truck is a lot more dangerous than a car. Hey! Team with Mom!
TruckerGonnaBe and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
Please don't let her get her CDL. We have enough problems out here on the road without another truck driver with poor driving habits. She needs more time learning how to drive in general. Today marks the 10th anniversary of my husband's death at the hands of a 16 year old with 2 months of driving experience. He had 35 years as an OTR driver and over 50 years driving total. She is a hazard to herself. Doesn't need 80000 pounds to do damage.
Leftlane101, xlsdraw, Wild Murphy and 2 others Thank this. -
Simple truth to the matter is, she is "un-hireable". No matter how bad she wants it, there is not one trucking company that will touch her with a ten foot pole at the moment. Too many infractions in too short a time. Gonna take YEARS to clean up that record.

when I was a teen I had 3 very bad wrecks. all my fault, all while racing or screwing around. when I joined the military they said I would never drive in their vehicles.
3 months after getting to permanent party I was driving an ammo carrier, then a howitzer, than a commander's vehicle. One day I even drove General Vouno around.
while in there I cleaned up my record some. after getting out I cleaned up my record a lot. got a job driving truck soon after getting out. than got recalled and told the O/O I was driving for that I had to quit.
Now days I have some of the lowest insurance rates I know of and a very clean record to boot. I seldom speed, never race etc (except on tracks). It takes time to mature. I grew up wanting to drive trucks, but at 18 there was no way I was ready. Thankfully no one would hire me than.
sounds like it might not be right for her at this time, I would tell her to call a couple of the "we'll train you" co's and apply. They'll turn her down and you will both know that it isn't the right time. Saves the argument where you tell her it isn't worth it and she thinks you're just saying that. etc.
they turned my son down for one major ticket as a teen. if you're young and want to do driving, you have to be squeaky clean. when you're older they bend a little more for you on old lessons learned.TruckerGonnaBe Thanks this.
