They have a thing for black cats. Black hats have attitude, but they do not mesh well with tabbys. If you pair up cats, I read it's best to do so in even numbers so every cat pairs up.
Black cats and Calico cats tend to be outcasts. I pulled a Calico kitty out of the snow in Utah and nursed it back to health. A very lively and energetic kitten. Unfortunately she took off on me after she got well. I am not an experienced cat owner.
My parents also took on a Siamese kitty that had several owners. She was a beautiful cat with bright blue eyes and a black face. But she was very emotional, probably because she had so many owners. When my parents took a vacation on a cruise ship, I went to their house to baby sit their kitties and she wasn't having it. She ran away as soon as I opened the door to have a cigar and I heard coyotes about 45 minutes later howling doing their hunting yelps. It was very sad. We loved that cat.
But my parents have saved a lot of cats and given them a good home. We have had a few failures, but also some success.

We had 3 at the core for quite awhile. Just depends on their personalities.
Had up to 7 when fostering.
Impossible just to put a new cat or kitten on the truck with existing cat or kitten. Unless you want crash.
Introductions take time and especially space lol.stuckinthemud, D.Tibbitt, Wasted Thyme and 2 others Thank this. -
You can tell a man's heart by how he treats animals who can do nothing to advance his position. Your's is golden.stuckinthemud, D.Tibbitt, Dave_in_AZ and 3 others Thank this. -

Pets do not eat at the same table we eat. It just works out that way. We generally do not need to punish or disclipine. They know when its special treat time and live for it. God knows some of those treats are expensive. (One cat in particular is in heaven with a particular grass grow provided you had 4 weeks for it to grow to length first.)
There is one exception.
Thanksgiving day. A few chops of turkey and a bit of gravy. And they know it in advance. If they were to spend one day on their backs purring and fat and happy that would be that day.D.Tibbitt, Dave_in_AZ, tarmadilo and 1 other person Thank this. -

Their countered by the 3 dogs.
They all get along for the most part. The old cat keeps the dogs an other 2 cats in line. The 2 younger dogs an 1 young cat harass the hell out of the other 3.
That's Waylon(image)...10 months, an yes, he's named after Waylon Jennings. My old man beagle is Cash, named after Johnny. Not found a Willie yet.
Oh an he doesn't beg. He'll sit next to you while you eat, then goes to sleep til your done. He's been like that since he was 3 months old. Good dog, any more chill an he'd be comatose. Changes if your a stranger, a bear, or wind blown leaf.
I don't have photos of the cats. They tend to run off before I can focus.
Stay safe!

I have a Malamute who will look at me at the table, then look at the floor. It’s almost as if she is saying
“Put that right there”.stuckinthemud, D.Tibbitt, Dave_in_AZ and 3 others Thank this. -
