I have been out of it for the last 3 1/2 years after 18 years of driving. I still miss it every day. Not the crazy drivers... not the DOT. But I miss the freedom to wake up every day and go do my job without a supervisor standing over me. It's in your blood... your soul... its your lifestyle. I was good at it. I was respected by the company to get the freight hauled. But the feeling that your feeling will pass. You have to go find something else that you can have the same passions for. See I thought all I could do was drive a truck... I had to go out and see if I could find the same sense of accomplishment doing something else. It took a while. I'm a work in progress!

I am pretty sure it is a psychological disorder. That is alright though, we all have something.

I haul fuel locally. Been doing it with this company for just over a year now. I miss sleeping in a truck, going to truckstops, and a list of other things I miss about otr.

Though I enjoy getting to see my family and girlfriend more often. I don't think you're crazy, I'd say it's normal when you're used to being on the road so much then you get into a job where you still drive but you're not gone as much

I've only been a trucker for a little less than 8 years, but I've been off the road sitting on my butt at home for 7 months now nursing a bum knee on worker's comp. I'm going about half crazy wanting to get back on the road, but right now I'm waiting to find out if that's even going to be possible.

I retired from trucking in 1997... Still in the blood... Memory is fading thou... Enjoy this forum to keep abreast of the ole times..
I was pretty lucky, didn't have cell phones, computers, all that electronic stuff you guys enjoy using today..
And all that smog crap they put on engines today..

I think todays trucker forgot how to get outa their trucks and exercise a little, even hauling a box, I had to lump it myself.. Preferred open-deck trailers thou...

Never seemed to have a problem with truck stops that they do today.. What's with this P-bottle crap, can't you get up enough strength to at least wattle into the restrooms??
    Are they really that lazy???
Guess those that do it can shoot me down, but just a reminder, I'm getting too ole to care......

P in the bottle is if u can't get to a rest stop or truck stop. If someone is on water pills etc. Then u have no choice but yes I agree alot of truckers r lazy.
