I work in the fuel industry in Detroit so you get a full year under your belt I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime we got capacity and capital in the southwest area don’t have a lot of listings but they got tons of truck moving and sitting down here. Capacity is on the corner of Dix and Schaefer. And capital is on Mellon between dix and Schaefer. Central transport pays good and their home everyday.. not a top of the line company but it’s a great start. When you get your cdl walk into all those and see what they say.
Tanker experience in the fuel industry is a bonus but not all necessary. My company gave a guy a genuine shot and he had less than 3 months exp. hadn’t seen the feller since he was kicked out of our trainers truck but he atleast got 3 weeks paid tryout
Is my plan viable?

I was home everynight making 90 doing ltl and I didn't have to do any physical labor except maybe moving converter gear to build a setCaptainFurlough Thanks this.

What are you type rated in?
-
Bingo. This is what I’m looking for. I know it might not happen overnight but this is the goal.

CRJ 200
B737 -
Not overnight, but certainly much sooner than wasting a year doing flatbed. Check with the LTL companies Chinatown posted, contact them asking which schools are on their approved list then apply once you get your license.
You will most likely need hazmat and doubles endorsements so get those when you do your CDL test.CaptainFurlough Thanks this. -
11-5 marked my second full year as a proffessional driver. I can vouch and say this is very achievable. Keep a clean license a look around in a year.CaptainFurlough Thanks this.

If you don't mind living out of your suitcase these guys are pretty good. They've been going to Australia during the US off season and that makes for fairly steady work.
An A&P would help get you in the door. Right now with the Covid thing jobs are hard to find.
COULSON AVIATION4mer trucker and CaptainFurlough Thank this. -
Dang dude, thats a gig I always wanted.
What kind of hours do you have at that level? -
I had a little over 4000 when I interviewed at my current company last year. However, the industry was absolutely jamming and 2019 was a record year. When times are tough you better know someone and have three moon landings.
My airline career is absolutely nuts. Took me two years to become a captain at a regional, 18 months after that I was in at a major. Got my shiny new type rating then covid shut me everything down and it looks like a multi year lay-off is in the works.
That’s why it’s very likely that this is a career change. If I can be home every night and make a good enough living to pay off student loans and buy a home, I’m not gonna go back when they recall furloughs years from now.
