Are you fuel haul guys worried about electric vehicles? I see more and more Tesla’s even outside of Ann Arbor everyday.

Worried? Not really. The urban areas might be seeing a decline in fuel use but out here in the boonies we aren't affected by electric cars. Yet.

I had a conversation with a lady on this same subject several months ago. I will tell you what I told her. Get the CDL first. I have not read all the comments so I might have missed this, but are you going company financed? If the company finances, you will need to do that first year first. If you are doing the school another way then as I told this lady, set your sights on what you feel you can do. I suggest you seek MORE than one source for information. Speak to lots of recruiters. Find a truck stop and sit and ask the drivers you find there questions, most are open and will tell you the truth. Disregard the fanboys and the ones that can't say anything positive. Trust me, you will find the right path forward.

Ok, situation awareness is very important in this industry, but have a plan b, flying isn’t one if you were furloughed.

This Covid thing, I know three people they have not been furloughed but their hours have been reduced. The airlines are furloughing I know that. However, I’m not understanding why you want to chuck away your career as an aviator to drive a truck? Doesn’t make any sense, of course I know I’m not getting all the information and I’m good with that. Or are you furloughed because you can’t pass your physical? If this is the case? You might have problems Getting a CDL.

There is talk that the airline industry is never going to be what it was before ever again.
They have lots of problems even when business is booming
OP might just be looking at the writing on the wall here Even if covid goes away tomorrow, we may have done irreparable harm to our economy
Many corporations have realized that they can get away with a lot less business travel now with tools like zoom.
Tourism may also take years to come back from the absolute boom that it was enjoying till covid hit

For every Tesla there’s about 20 people with 392s and hellcats averaging 12 mpg doing donuts in Detroit... but also everything’s becoming super expensive... so I think used cars and gas will be round for a long time. The cheapest Tesla model so far is still 36k which to most is a lot.

I remember reading story after story about how the public would be scared of flying after the events of 911. I am positive at some point the airline industry will recover. I admit I have ignored the news as it relates to any possible bailouts that may be coming. For me, if I were holding a class A physical and otherwise fully able to exercise the privileges of my ATP, there is NO WAY I would change careers just yet.

If you have already made it to a major, why would you consider not going back once recalled?

If I can be home every night with no debt and a decent income then I don’t need to fly planes to be happy. My goal with getting into a major in the first place was spanking down student loans ASAP, buying a home, and saving a small pile of cash so I could get out of aviation early.

Since I’m gonna be outta the game for a few years I might be able to reach my zero debt aside from a mortgage goal anyways.

Professional flying is just a job to me. A job that I borrowed way too much money to get into.
