How is OOIDA dictating business operating protocol? I must be missing something (seriously).
Is OOIDA worth it?

Bill i guess you have never bin screwed by a broker with a $10k bond that had 10 times that filed against it. I am not for more gov regs or laws but i am for broker haveing to have a higher bond. I do not like haveing to have million dollar liability but i do, why to protect the property of others so imo a broker should have a bond big enough to cover there acounts payable. IMO OOIDA is well worth the $45 fee to be a member.

OOIDA spends a lot of money promoting themselves. Rather than believe what any organization says they have done in court, read the court cases and make sure you understand HOW they "won". Then compare that to the press they generate. You will not just be surprised but I think you will be pissed when you learn the truth in many cases.RickG Thanks this. -
Why is it not OK for the government to tell you how to run your truck (HOS) but you are all for them protecting you from your own bad credit decisions?
Is it that we are all so stupid that we can't figure out how to manage our own credit risk that we need the government to protect us?
To add to this - Law of Unintended Consequences - I have two very good brokers that I work with. If this goes from law to regulation, they will both have to become agents for some other company. In one case that will put a bookkeeper out of business and in both cases I will see a 10% drop in rates.
So the Government and OOIDA have seen to making a big broker bigger and putting a little guy out of business. -
I support making the bond higher so the brokers that bottom out O/O's are crushed, truckers have not stood together for years and before deregulation.

Bill I am sure all small brokers are not dishonest and know a few that are above board and pay very fast, but I have to agree higher bonds are not the answer but will drive out the bottom feeders in time. Even a few good brokers have went rouge and collapsed under financial difficulties, but this should keep the scam artist from doing pop ups. -
So because you are in trucking you need protecting from scam artists? What makes you so special that the government needs to protect you from yourself? Not saying that to be snotty. Just wondering why you need the protection and a parts supplier doesn't?
Since starting into this discussion I took a look at our aging reports. In the last 3-months we have had 67 invoices go past 30-days. 3 where from small or single office brokers. The rest from large brokers that will benefit from this new law. And the only brokers I have had to threaten to file on their bond are very large ones that like to play games to hold funds.
