Skateboardman, you make an excellent point! Amazing what some people EXPECT from a $45 membership.

rickg, not trying to be a smart a, but 45 bucks is not much of a worry to me. i feel i get my money's worth from my membership, so its not insane to me.

it is apparent you blame someone for whatever has occured with you, it must be ooida. . some of the advice on here is good, however some of it is far out in left field and given from folks holding grudges , and some who simply dont have a clue.

The highway bill just passed mandates EOBR's . Yes , it WILL go into effect.
As Roadmedic mentioned in another post FMCSA tried to mandate EOBR's only in carriers with a history of repeated HOS violations . OOIDA got a court to rule against that. They won the battle but lost the war. Soon ALL newer trucks over 26,000. Lbs. GVWR wil have EOBR's

I know people are going to scream on this one.

BUT..... As long as CSA is what it is EOBRs should be something that drivers ask for AND independent O/O's look for the cheapest solution and install it ASAP. Almost all of the violations in the fatigued driving category are clerical. By having an EOBR in the truck you can eliminate this violation. And considering major companies are already starting to use CSA as criteria for allowing you to haul freight you need to pay attention to this.

Now I never want the government to tell me what to do but once it is here is I have to look at the best way to make money with what I have. So yeah, fight the mandate but it is really a minor issue given all the other areas.

But this bond thing that OOIDA fought for. And others are here applauding. It is going to put people out of business, negatively effect small business owners lively hood, cost trucking companies millions during the transition, put trucking companies out of business and make TIA stronger and its members richer.

bill, i got an eclipse logbook program on my laptop that does exactly what you say the eobr will do. the eobr is subject to clerical error also , maybe not in the addition of total hours, but in the editing betwen line and line 1. if it switches to line 4 when the truck stops and the driver doesnt go to line 1 manually, then approves the logs. he has a huge clerical error and costs himself hours. BUT, als all he has to do is call the office and they can change the log for him . they are far from foolproof.

the fact is the current eobr that exist dont meet the criteria outlined in the bill, the bill calls for a biometric device to ensure which driver is behind the wheel, with the disaster the biometric twic card has become, imagine a eobr that has to meet biometric standards, figur the costs of one then.

and i fail to see how an increase in the cost of a bond will cause such economic disaster. i dont see how it will anything but the differnce in the cost of the performance bond. heck i know carpet installers who have more than 10,000 bonds.

but look at it this way ,bill . many look at eobr in the same light as you look at the broker bond increase.

We shall sit back and watch this all unfold. But don't come crying when some small broker goes under and takes a $100k in of unpaid loads with him. Bond companies are already warning of this, have stopped writing smaller bonds and issuing statements that if a broker makes them whole on claims they will not go after them. One even has a program that says they will charge $25 per claim to allow them to settle it against the bond (pay the claim amount plus $25).

Tell me this isn't setting up a road map for "legal" fraud.

90-days before this happens (if it happens - regulations still need to be written) I am going to be turning the screws on my credit extension. Even companies with good track record with us will be reviewed.

If someone can't qualify for a 10,000.00 bond they shouldn't be in it. Now for 75,000.00 it will take some decent credit. The small broker who is only making 50k a year may not qualify, they'll end up working as an agent for a larger brokerage. With good credit/assets a LOC for 75k is only 5-600.00/year. Without good credit/no assets it could be 5-9k a year. 75k bond doesn't cover much, doesn't take much work to have 5-600k month in sales.
