Not necessarily. A single billionaire who donates $3,000,000 has far more clout with a politician than an organization with 300,000 who donate a dollar each. I don’t pretend to understand Citizen’s United, but this is the result.

Perhaps it’s just the Roaddawg effect, but it seems to me that OOIDA spends too much time fighting the inevitable and wastes resources trying to slow down laws instead of lobbying for effective change to the laws. Not to mention, the online arguments and filings against things like ELDs are factually vacuous and full of logical fallacies. Their legal team either takes on cases knowing their arguments will fail, or just sucks at coming up with arguments for laws their members don’t like (all of the laws).

Another issue for me personally is that for all they did to try and stop the eld’s they had no problem accepting money and running ads for the eld manufacturers in their magazine. Might seem small to some people but I believe if you’re against something then you’re 100% against it.

Another way to look at is they are using their own dollars against them.
Kind of makes a smart business decision.
Also it’s not the eld software and hardware they are fighting its the laws.

Sorry I don’t see it that way. I see it as “we’re against this regulation but we won’t turn down your money”.

They do some good once in a while but there’s stuff I don’t agree with so they no longer get my money.

    $35/$45 a year, whatever.

I just think it's comical that some purist(s) refuse to give their money to OOIDA because of some deeply held conviction against ELD's? Seriously? LOL

Personally, I’m not against ELD’s, there’s one in the truck I drive. All I was pointing out is that they, as an organization, will take money no matter where it comes from.

The industry is in the toilet and has been for some time.....What has the OOIDA done to improve the situation ?
Waste of time and money IMO, spend your money how you like..

Agreed. Also looks to me like a case of, "Well, we lost the ELD fight. If it's gonna be mandatory, maybe we can find a decent model we can advertise to our members."

Of course, no matter which one(s) they advertise, someone will have a problem with it, so OOIDA might as well take the money from all of them....

    (Meanwhile on TTR......)

"I GOT THE CABNANNY 2000 ELD AND IT SUCKS! I RAN SAN DIEGO TO SCARBOROUGH MAINE AND IT WONT LET ME EDIT THE TRIP FROM ONE DAY TO FIVE! NOW IM OOS AT THE COOPS AND I GOTTA PEE!! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!"

    . . .

"I am an experienced owner-operator. With my impeccably maintained 1961 Mack B60, I run rings around you lesser mortals, and chortle over your misfortunes. Due to my superior business acumen, I have no need of such electronic inconveniences. I blow my nose upon you all."

    . . .

"HOS? That's what I use to water my wacky terbaccy patch back at the house! Hyul-hyul-hyul!

San D to Scarborough? I do it twice a week with paper, son. Never seen the inside of a coop, let'm TRY 'n' catch me!

Like my daddy always said, 'Coops is fer steerin' wheel holders'.

Stay outta this steel-belted, gear-jammin', ultra-trucker's way, ladies! That dust you chokin' on is mine!! Hyul, hyul, hyul!!".

    . . .

"I am a company driver. While I hate the ELD mandate, I find the Cabnanny 2000 easy to use. I find that proper trip planning helps keep my trip edits to a minimum."

    . . .

"My company uses the Cabnanny 3000 with enhanced features enabled. I get a rub and tug from it when I go sleeper berth, and when I'm ready to go back on duty, the Cabnanny 3000 has the toast and coffee already made. I hardly get out of the truck anymore.

I plan to marry my Cabnanny 3000 at the Walcott Trucker Jam this summer. Stop by and say hi."

    . . .

.....sorry 'bout that. Ate a handful of jelly beans and still riding the sugar rush. I know better, but they sure were tasty.......
